Which players are going to the big island?
- If anyone has any further news on trials drop the name & club in here?
I’ve heard a couple of players are having trials. Can anyone add to the list?
James Sherman (ex. Zebras) has won himslef a spot in the Australian Schoolboys team to tour New Zealand & Fiji. James did well to earn himself a spot in the Brunswick City 1st squad. Brunswick are in the Victorian Div.1
Henry Fagg (ex. Zebras) is also at Brunswick.
Jonathon Ladic (Knights) has a trial with Green Gully. Ladic’s mate, Matty Sanders (ex. Metro & Knights) is also at Green Gully (Vic. Premier) and doing extremely well by all reports.
Goran Jozeljic (Knights & ex. Metro) has a trial with HASK Melbourne. I’m unsure at what level/division this club plays.
Chris Sanita (Kingborough Lions) was off to the Northern NSW Premier League outfit South Cardiff, but there is late news that he has been offered a trial with an unnamed Victorian Premier League outfit.
Rumours persist that a number of South Hobart lads, Bart Beecroft, Tom Roach, Alex Gordon & Billy Gasparinatos are also off to various clubs to trial during the Tasmanian off season. None of these can be substantiated but why spoil a good story with facts!!
Nathan Pitchford, New Town Eagles outstanding keeper, has also been linked with a trial to a Northern NSW club said to have close ties with the Newcastle Jets. This might not be as far fetched as it sounds as Newcastle have been struggling between the sticks. Could young Pitchford be A-League bound?? This rumour has since been denied (from the horses mouth, so to speak!!), which is a shame because I think Nathan has the ability to make the standard required at least at state premier level.
While on the subject of keepers, I’m also lead to believe Metro keeper Troy Kaden could be heading to an unnamed Victorian outfit to trial after a successful training stint with West Bromich Albion (English Championship League) during our last off season.
According to the Clarence website Michael Edwards has been appointed the newly created position of Director of the Youth Academy. This should be a positive appointment for the Clarence club but I’m not sure if the Clarence club is large enough for two big heads (Brown & Edwards) such as these.
With that appointment, Zebras are now rudderless. Will Franco Previdi return to Zebras? No doubt there will be a lot of to-ing and fro-ing going on prior to the start of preseason.
Newly promoted Taroona S.C. have scored a major coup with the signing of disgruntled Olympic keeper, Michael McKenna. You would imagine that unless there are a few major signings for the Taroona defence, McKenna will have rather a busy season. Good luck to the ‘Roona’ lads though.

yeh good to see all the boys going over, very competitive leauges in melb, good to see the boys doing well who have already gone over

It looks as though Clarence may have secured themsleves a couple of Zebras for next season. There is a strong word that Laird & Ryan Smith have decided to follow Eddo over the Derwent. If this proves factual, Clarence will have secure themselves a couple of decent players to shore up their ranks. Beware the Rising Phoenix!!!
Comment by Blackjack — November 17, 2006 @ 4:44 pm
Be interesting to see how McKenna fares at Taroona. His knack of acquiring season ending injuries which suddenly disappear at the drop of a hat were famous at Olympic. Perhaps ‘maturity’ may kick in this season and he may fulfil some of the potential and ability he showed when he first came to State. Interesting to see how a couple early losses might affect him and his new club.
Comment by Juice — November 17, 2006 @ 11:46 pm
Have you ever thought that McKenna’s actions may be in direct response to the way he was treated and/or the culture at Olympic? Very few players can play at every club. To some the culture of a club can be quite alienating. Besides, there is always two sides to ever story and let’s face it, if it wasn’t for McKenna Olympic would have had a lot of losses that otherwise became draws or small wins for Olympic.
Comment by Blackjack — November 18, 2006 @ 8:56 am
Henry Fagg is on his way back to Tasmania if the word on the street is correct. It seems the primary reason for his impending return is due to not being able to secure a regular first team place at Brunswick (Vic. Div.1 squad). Fagg may very well find a large load placed on his young shoulders as Zebras will be considerably weakened with the loss of Laird & Smith (to Clarence). That’s assuming he is actually returning to Zebras and not joining another outfit…Clarence perhaps!!! *wink*

I hear Damian “Dogga” Brown went to the Croatian tournament with Eammon Kelly as part of the Knights squad. Does this mean, if Kelly doesn’t get the South Hobart job, Dogga is off the Knights?? Or does it mean Kelly has already got the job at South?? Of course it could mean nothing at all, but if I was the coach of South, I’m not sure I’d be too happy with one of my players playing with another team in a tournament that didn’t mean anything to me. Oh, the intrigue!!
Comment by Blackjack — November 19, 2006 @ 12:05 pm
Id agree that McKenna’s form for the ‘05 season prevented a few losses here and there but definetely not for ‘06 season. Im sure he would admit this himself.
Always difficult to make accurate comment unless you are at nearly all of the games
As for the way he was treated at the club i could give you some insight on it but its probably not appropriate on here.
All i will say is someone needs to focus on letting their hands do the talking and not their mouths.

The club Gorene is trailling for was just promoted to the premier league(top league). Ex Olympic player Nebojsa Vukosaljevic (Played in 99 season) plays for them, im sure Walter remembers the impact he and Ivan Zilic made to the game and to Olympic in their one and only season
Comment by Juice — November 19, 2006 @ 3:49 pm
mckenna clearly won olympic the summer cup title last year pulling off class saves against the knights

Chris Sanita’s dominant season this year has proved that he is a superstar and may very well make it to the ‘elite’ level in the next couple of years. Kingborough also have some other talented youngsters that may be worthy keeping an eye out for in the future, such as Marcello Marchioli, Mark Iseli, Jeremy Brown, Michael Geomataris, Michael Palmer and Brett Andrews.
Comment by Mark — November 20, 2006 @ 2:03 pm
Marchioli has already made an impact. He has had a good debut season wih the lions and will require watching in the coming years. Iseli is also another of Kingborough’s up & coming players.
The Lions are lucky in that they have been the only Premier League team over the ‘Outlet’ but they will need to remain vigilant and not rest on any laurels with the introduction of Taroona into the Premiers for 2007.
Comment by Blackjack — November 20, 2006 @ 3:15 pm
Is Ben Harninson still at Bulleen?? Haven’t heard from him in some time now.
Corner Flag, what’s happening with Sherman in terms of the Australian Schoolboys team and the tour to NZ? If you would like to drop me a line I’ll run a seperate article on the youngster.
Comment by Blackjack — November 20, 2006 @ 3:26 pm
harbinson played at bulleen this season but not sure if he has signed for next, wich players have actually got contracts on the mainland

Blackjack,
Just a short note to bring you upto date with a few things,
A/ It was Daniel Brown That came with the Knights to Sydney, not Damien.
B/ No Eamonn Kelly has not been appointed as the new South Hobart Coach for season 2007.
C/ The Croatian Tournament means a lot to the players concerned and Daniel was a guest player invited by myself and the playing squard, and also Daniel is a good Drinker not only a great player, Yes shure we would have him at the Knights but thats upto Daniel????
Comment by Eamonn Kelly — November 21, 2006 @ 1:31 pm
Reports are flooding the rumour mill that Michael Bullis has been trialing with Melbourne Victory on the reccomendation of Dale Itchins
Comment by Reverse Kanga — November 21, 2006 @ 10:32 pm
Thanks Eamonn. I stated that you had been ‘interviewed’ by South Hobart not ‘appointed’. So do we take it as gospel that you have been appointed to retain the reins at Knights? Your responses in dot point C/ were interesting…
Comment by Blackjack — November 22, 2006 @ 9:05 am
Has kelly actually been reappointed at knights, i would have thought that a coach that has won the league 2 years in a row would be a shoe in? But maybe they are due for a change.
Comment by Not a knight supporter — November 22, 2006 @ 10:46 am
If you wish to have a credible column then please make sure of your facts. And speak to the horses head not the ass.
For the record this is Dale Itchins and I do work at Football Federation Tasmania and I have never met nor spoken to Mr Michael Bullis. The closest I have ever come to the gentleman was when he played at right midfield for Hobart Olympic and I was in the Coaches dugout for New Town Eagles. But i am sure if you keep these rumours going it is human nature foir most people to keep reading it.
You have a lovely day!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Mr Blackjack
It seems that there is some prejudice as to what is acceptable on your site. With all due respect, it doesn’t seem as if your comments are filtered. Why can you put forward your opinions yet others can’t. I don’t think my opinions were in anyway insulting or abusive. I was simply giving my opinion on a couple of issues raised. Untrue rumors can also be portrayed as being insulting on an individual basis.

Arthur

Dear Mr Blackjack
Some information that has come across my desk which I am sure readers will find interesting concerning Kingborough.
Chris Sanita is off to Sunshine George Cross and Tim Dale is stepping down as coach. Double blow for the club. Both will be difficult to replace as they both played a huge role in reversing Kingborough’s recent poor results. Could krambo be asked to take over the reins again?
Comment by Arthur Goldie — November 24, 2006 @ 10:13 am
Walter Pless stated back in September that Sanita had been picked up by South Cardiff in the NNSW League. I had heard a whisper about a Victorian Club. Can you confirm this?? Sanita’s departure will undoubtably be a loss, but one door closes and another opens which is the same for any club that develops a good player.
Is Tim Dale leaving Kingborough or just stepping down as senior coach?? Surely this won’t mean Kingborough will be left rudderless though, wasn’t it a double act in Dale and Warren Iles that won the senior ‘Coach of the Year’ in 2005. Unless I’m mistaken, Warren Iles must surely retain his role.
You seem to have a fairly ‘unusual’ perception on poor results. Finishing second in the league, two seasons in a row (as Kingborough did), could only be considered as enviable by every other club except Knights.
Comment by Blackjack — November 24, 2006 @ 10:47 am
Chris Sanita was going to South Cardiff as he trialled with them late this season, however it was not unexpected that a victorian team would try and get him as KLUSC have a few links with past players and a few Vic. Clubs. I think the poor records talked about was probably the time pre 2005, where for a club the size of KLUSC was probably not performing to the expected potential (real or not). IF Dale steps down it would be a disappointing result as he was in my opinion ( having been involved in the southern squad) the best coach and man manager, Krambo definately not back at KLUSC.
Comment by charlie white — November 24, 2006 @ 11:00 am
You are spot on with your comments Charlie. The poor results I was referring to were pre-2005 before Dale and Warren took over. For the amount of juniors that KLUSC have registered, it would appear that the senior team has not really achieved the results that most would expect. Similarly, their reserves and under 19’s sides are not really that strong. Does this come down to the fact that all clubs have a real problem keeping their juniors coming through to senior level? I believe that we have a real problem with keeping juniors interested in the game after they reach a certain age, eg 14-16.
Comment by Arthur Goldie — November 24, 2006 @ 11:24 am
It’s funny, KLUSC have had some fantastic players come through the ranks, many of these people have now left the state for work reasons and this has impacted greatly on all of our teams not just the seniors. Luke Barlow, Kristen Beardwood, Wade Barker, Mark Hughes, Peter Haig, Ben Daley, Will Walker, Rob Mortello, Steve Weller, Adam Williams etc etc all have moved on to other places for their employment, I don’t know of too many teams who have lost so many senior players and still been competitive. We do have as all clubs have the problem of producing players who can play at the top level and stay at the club who “produced” them, we also have a lot of players who have been poached to other clubs. Retention of youth players is very hard with so many other options, KLUSC do reasonably well and our recent success has been through youth and Kingborough people, not ring ins.
Comment by charlie white — November 24, 2006 @ 11:52 am
yeh sanita has been set up trials with sunsjine george cross in the vpl, also the word around is ben harbinson has retired frm the vpl
Comment by paulie — November 24, 2006 @ 11:03 pm
in regards to the klusc if tim dale does step down from coaching warren isles will not coach the club by himself and as a reult i dont think the lions will do well in the coming season. there will not be enough organisation in the team something that dale & isles should be commended for
Comment by joey — November 26, 2006 @ 8:21 pm
Wow! anyone would think that Dale and Iles were the only people at KLUSC who were committed and organised to drive the club. Anyone who knows the club would know that many people (those on the committee and coaches panel) all input to have success. There were more than 2 coaches at KLUSC last year. If organisation was the only reason that KLUSC went from 2nd last to 2 second place finishes then we would not need not good players but good bueracrats to organise the players. Give credit to the club as a whole and the team that went onto the park every week to achieve the results, If Dale leaves, then he will not be lost, he will still be at KLUSC in some capacity and still working as hard as he has.

where did the reserves and u/19 of klusc finish in their respective competitions
Comment by joey — November 27, 2006 @ 1:20 pm
Joey
I assumed your previous email was talking about “the team” and that team was the seniors, i was simply responding to your comments on “the team” if that was a general reference to all teams then fair call. I think it is fair to say the KLUSCs success at senior level has come about from others below sacrificing thier own team to play at a higher level, even when it was not necessary with thier mates or fun to play at right full back if you get to play as a striker for a lower league. Success at a senior level comes from success at a lower level, no doubt, so any team which has a successful 19s or reserves should have a top senior team, true? Or any team which has a top senior team from thier own youngsters getting a game must have a decent pathway designed to breed success for longer than just a season or two.
Comment by D. Sanchez — November 27, 2006 @ 4:25 pm
Hi Joey
After reading your post I thought about what you had said, I thought I needed to make a post in response raising the question (Blackjack may start his own post on this) “What makes a club successful?”
Is success measured in a single year? Is success only measured by one teams success in a club? If so can we then change which team is the most important in our club if they suceed?
I would love to know what people think of this, not every club is going to have a good year, only one team can win every year.
Specifically to you Joey what makes your team have a good year? Was it your reserves and u/19s, if so congratulations. Did they win either league? or was finishing close good enough.
KLUSC had a good year, in fact a great year. Here’s why I think we had a good year and am proud of the achievements, putting my name and allegiance next to it.
1) Finishing second in the league for the 2nd year in a row
50 or so new KLUSC players kicking the beautiful round ball for the first time in our under 7s
2) Equal first and second in Vic Tuting medal count
3) Equal first in Womens Prem Best and Fairest
4) Womens Coach of the year
5) Div 1 (who we put on equal par with our reserves) finishing top 3
6) Div 1 reserves finishing top 3
7) u14 premiers
The last one is probably the one to be most proud of in the overall scope of the game and the support and growth of the football in Tasmania. For that KLUSC will be succesful every year.
Comment by charlie white — November 28, 2006 @ 8:54 am
congratulations charlie but i was only asking a simple question
thanks anyway

I think Clarence, South Hobart & a few others would also claim they have had a successful year.
Good idea on your topic discussion. I will put it up in the next day or two.

To everyone out there, back to back champions Glenorchy Knights are certain to take out its third successive premiership for the coming 2007 season! They are the side everyone hates but who wants to be. The party team of Soccer Tasmania. They are strong in all areas of the park and this year will certainly welcome the return of Tony Dzelalija in the back line and Josh Fielding should push into the middle of the park. A massive rumour that will scare most clubs is the possible return of guns Mathew Sanders and Jonathon Ladic to the squad for the clubs anniversary year. Just a rumour going around? I cant see the Knights slipping up this year they still have alot of depth! Comments certainly welcome!

What about up-date’s on some of your sites, i,e Players going to the Big Island & Coaching movements ?? Thanks.

Thanks for your input Eamonn…
The updates are up to you guys. I put up the topics, you guys put up the news. Unlike Walter I’m not paid to do this so I’m hardly going to be phoning you all a couple of times a week…you can always post your news though, cut out the middle man as it were…that would be proactive!!!
I’m not trying to replace Walter or even be an alternative. The reason I’m here is to create a vehicle so EVERYONE in Tasmanian football can have a voice. It’s also one of the reasons I’m trying to maintain a certain amount of civility and legitimacy about the place.
