State Rep Team Funding
Topic moved and continues from “Oops there goes another”
Speaking of money for State Rep sides, where is that money?? How did it assist this years State players?? Each player was faced with shelling out $2500+ and to my knowledge there was NO financial assistance. So where is that money?
As I said in a another topic…as you have the ideas, do it. Don’t whinge.

State rep sides were funded completley by the parents of the players concerned not by FFT in 2004 Soccer Tas (then) sponsored the players in U15 &u16 a small amount, very small amount and that over the last 6 years I have been involved is it.

Thanks Corner Flag but I think we are trying to determine (unless I’m mistaken) what happened to the funding promised by the ALP during the last State election.
My understanding was that a total of $800,000 was to be received over four years. $400,000 was directly allocated to the development of the Footballing arm of the Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS). The other $400,000 was to assist State Representative teams to attend National Championships and similar.
My point is that none of the 2006 allocation for State teams appears to have been used to assist our Tassie U14 & U15 teams to attend the National Champs in Coffs Harbour. It cost each of the players (and their families) close to $2500 to attend the Coffs Harbour titles this year. So the question needs to be asked…what happened to this years funding assistance for these State teams.
Maybe someone from the FFT (office or board) could advise.

The additional funding has, as i understand it, not yet been received - so it would have been difficult to use it to assist in 2006 state team expenses. I believe the Club Presidents are aware of how the funding is to be allocated.

Thanks for that SJ , it appears that you are very well informed from above comments and other comments (” oops , there goes another one”)in respect to FFT staff ,as such u are either a board member at club level or even FFT , .
Regardless of which you could perhaps tell the Football public who’s kids are in the programs how the money is spent , the clubs don’t have to fork the money out of their pockets to pay for players to represent the State - some do assist which is great, but telling the club presidents doesn’t equate to telling the parents .
Be a good sport and tell the blog what happens to the STATE GOVERNMENT $100,000 a year funding!
If you are not willing maybe one of the club Presidents will !!

In response to Left Back & SJ
State Governement funding was to the tune of $800,000 over four years.
$100,000 per year of that money was to match the funding received from FFA and to be used specifically for funding of the Football programme at the TIS.
A further $100,000 a year was to fund junior development squads attending national championships and to remove the financial burden of interstate travel from their parents.
It’s fairly clear the first $100,000 has been received because FFT have advertised the coaching jobs for both male and female players at the TIS.
SJ, are you saying the other $100,000 hasn’t been received?? Will parents from this year’s squads be reimburrsed once the funding does become available?? I mean to say, the funding was for the 2006 season.

Thanks Lionheart , guess the answers will come out in the washing ,like most Government funding it has to be aquitted and is subject to review and questions at budget times..
I think the TIS is a great initiative - hope we get the right coaches - any ideas on how it will work ? what ages the kids to be targetted will be ? will they play in a comp ?

Charlie White in the rumours comments touched on problems keeping players at clubs ; i believe he is correct in what he is saying , it is near impossible for clubs to keep the majority of young quality players in Tassie , whilst a number will always move on because of work and educational reasons , the mere fact that a good young player is playing seniors at 16 , what else is their for the kid to achieve in Tassie ?
Tasmania like in the AFL are a feeder district in Football terms , Sanita( and their are other in Tassie with similar talent ) is a classic example ,he has to move on to progress his undoubted football talent , like Sanders - Harbinson - Greenwood - Breaden have done in recent years , but it is no different in other areas of Australia , country kids want to move to Melbourne and Sydney , because that is the hub , the Sydney - Melbourne kids want to go overseas , they want to play at a higher level, plus their is always somebody out their willing ( for a $$$ )to get the so called trial.
We all have a place in the Football “food chain” like in life , at present we are on the bottom of the chain , without an A League team , we will always be an exporter , with vision maybe a team in the Victorian Premier League is a good stepping stone - long term we need to be part of the big picture - A League ! a pipe dream some will say but i am sure cricket went through the same pipe dream and look at the tigers now.
Football is evolving along similar lines Tassie made it in the Sheffield Shield because the governing body ACB had the funds and the forsight to make it work , FFA have similar aims and strategic plans a state based A. League not a club based.
The A League will develop into a stronger competition and expand offering more places for Australian players , underpinning the A League teams will be Youth Academy programs ( hopefully a Youth League as the start point for the aspiring A League players).
The TIS program will be a good start point for the Tasmanian players ( by the way can we get off all the crap about were the money is going - we finally have some Government funding for an elite program lets make it work for us - so much mudracking - points scoring !!) bringing us in line with the rest of Australia - the big question is can we also provide a place for the kids when they come out of the program offering them a chance to progress in their own state ? any ideas ?
