Tasmania like in the AFL are a feeder district in Football terms , Sanita( and their are other in Tassie with similar talent ) is a classic example ,he has to move on to progress his undoubted football talent , like Sanders - Harbinson - Greenwood - Breaden have done in recent years , but it is no different in other areas of Australia , country kids want to move to Melbourne and Sydney , because that is the hub , the Sydney - Melbourne kids want to go overseas , they want to play at a higher level, plus their is always somebody out their willing ( for a $$$ )to get the so called trial. We all have a place in the Football "food chain" like in life , at present we are on the bottom of the chain , without an A League team , we will always be an exporter , with vision maybe a team in the Victorian Premier League is a good stepping stone - long term we need to be part of the big picture - A League ! a pipe dream some will say but i am sure cricket went through the same pipe dream and look at the tigers now. Football is evolving along similar lines Tassie made it in the Sheffield Shield because the governing body ACB had the funds and the forsight to make it work , FFA have similar aims and strategic plans a state based A. League not a club based. The A League will develop into a stronger competition and expand offering more places for Australian players , underpinning the A League teams will be Youth Academy programs ( hopefully a Youth League as the start point for the aspiring A League players). The TIS program will be a good start point for the Tasmanian players ( by the way can we get off all the crap about were the money is going - we finally have some Government funding for an elite program lets make it work for us - so much mudracking - points scoring !!) bringing us in line with the rest of Australia - the big question is can we also provide a place for the kids when they come out of the program offering them a chance to progress in their own state ? any ideas ? I think the TIS is a great initiative - hope we get the right coaches - any ideas on how it will work ? what ages the kids to be targetted will be ? will they play in a comp ?
