Best U/19 player
Who is the best U/19 player in Tasmania?
In the South names such as Gasparinatos, Lawler, La Polla, Marchiolli, Hunt, Walsh will always be bandied around but what about the likes of Bobby Eaves & Kamon Johnston up north? Then you will also have Div.1 clubs chiming in with the likes of Tom Sherman & Jacob Cavanaugh.
Who gets your vote?
I think FFT should seriously consider the reintroduction of the ‘Rising Star’ award for players playing in senior grades but still eligible to play U/19.
University to leave the SPL?
There is some strong information coming through that University’s continued involvement at the Southern Premier League is tenuous at best. Personally speaking that does not come as any great surprise if in fact it is grounded in fact. Anyone watching Uni over the last few weeks could see the real desire and ability to compete at the highest level is waning. Don’t get me wrong, there is still a huge amount of pride associated with this club but while the heart maybe willing, the flesh (bones, ligaments & cartilage) is weak.
The retirement of Rappa and the ability of the marvelous Sheppy & Horace to continue grinding out appearances on a match by match basis must becoming increasingly difficult. Then there is the likes of Alexis Bull who has succumbed to osteitis pubis (a long term injury prospect), and numerous others who struggle to put in two-three consecutive matches must be demoralising.
So if University does remove themselves from the SPL what will this mean for the league? Will it mean both Beachside & Metro participate regardless of the playoff result?
There is also persistent rumours that University will run a ‘Chickenfeed’ (everything cheap as chips) social league. Will this be a league open to only Uni members or will they open it to social clubs? If they choose the latter how will this impact on FFT’s league structure?
Nice start to the off season.

Caption Funnies
It too bloody serious around here and frankly I’ve had enough. I need something to lighten the mood and return this blog to a light hearted and flippant place it needs to be from time to time. Like now!!
Here’s a funny little photo. Can you put a suitable caption to it?
ADULT CONTENT - If rude words and naughty notions offend you read last weekends South Leagues . That will keep you amused for hours (if not weeks).
Player of the Year
This will be a ’suck it and see’…’work in progress’…etc. So please be patient.
I am going to name 2-3 players per team (that have impressed me through the year) and I call on others to put names forward if I haven’t covered the whole story).
Once we have a working group I will ask punters to put forward their votes for ONE player in each of those teams. Once that list is finalised I will put up the final group as a full voting poll…but to vote you MUST be registered with this blog rather than just a ghost reader.
So here we go…(click on more)

Futsal minefield
It looks like we are going to have a clash of interests and two groups going head to head for the patronage of futsal interests in Southern Tasmania.
Vikings Futsal has launched a well thought out and potentially spectacular initiative by taking Futsal outdoors during the summer. All games will be located the Tasmanian Hockey Centre. This initiative could prove to be a huge boon to the futsal programme if it is run well and in a family orientated fashion. I could easily feel rather comfortable sitting at the Hockey Centre on a barmy weekday evening watching my youngsters run around enjoying themselves. It could be brilliant.
FFT have also launched their new season of Futsal under the banner of ‘FFA approved Futsal competition’. Is this meant to imply all other futsal is not FFA approved and is therefore wrong or is it just meant to be a way of trying to attract players?
Personally, I would prefer to see Vikings & FFT sit down for talks to see if common ground could be achieved for the benefit of ALL futsal players.
I am sure both bodies have their interests to protect but WHO is futsal to be established for??
Can our North and North-Western friends fill us in on what is taking place up there?
Tippernator Tipping Champion
Tippernator has taken out the inaugural SPL tipping competition after taking an unbeatable lead in this week’s round. One match remains but with a superior ‘cleansweep’ average he cannot be eclipsed by trev69 who has battled hard all year. Third place has been taken out by Winston who was only one point behind trev69.
The tipping comp has been generously sponsored by Sandra & Scott Harrison at New Town’s The Soccer Shop. Please support these guys who are putting so much into the game at a grassroots level.
Tippernator will be able to collect his prize very shortly and can take his time selecting $100 worth of stock from the shelves at The Soccer Shop.
