  1. John Ladic is a confirmed new member of the Sunshine Georgies squad - see this link

So unless he’s failed to honour his contract that’s the end of the story.

  3. Word on the street is DOSA-Northern Suburbs still havent appointed a coach. It could be a good introduction to the job for anyone with any coaching aspirations?

  4. Kenyi Emmanuali is training with Zebras after also training with Metro but making a late decision and declining to join (according to a very disappointed Metro source)

    Comment by Blackjack — February 6, 2007 @ 11:14 pm

  5. Not so Blackjack.

John Ladic as we speak will be arriving in Devonport, and will resume Training with the Knights on Friday Evening, not a fact of not honouring his contract because he never sighned it.
John want’s to be part of the Knight’s 50th Year celebrations and return to Melbourne Next year.

Any body that has been in the Knights camp knows it’s a happy family and hard not to be a part of a huge such a big occasionas the 50th year.

All nominations had to be in by early last week!
Does anyone have any info on this?

  9. The Steve Hudson Cup is a private comp run by the Launceston Utd club nothing to do with FFT.

The Summer Cup is an FFT enterprise .

I’ve seen the roster for the latter . You’ll see me on the gate at Washington St .
Don’t complain to me about having to pay , complain to the organisers . Someone has to pay the ground rent and referees.so ring FFT.

  11. Chris Sanita is a DEFINITE starter. Wade Barker is also back from OS and will be as good as a new signing. Also strong rumours of an ex-NSL player signing but I’ll leave the name release to on of the club persons so I don’t upset certain people.

One further plus is that for the first time in I don’t how long, Kingborough won’t be scratching for keepers.

Speaking of keepers, I hear Knights are also chasing another keeper. None other than Taroona’s recent signing Michael McKenna is on the Knights shopping list. So looks like there will be competition for the No.1 So either McKenna or Peters is going to be the reserve keeper. Either way, it looks like Knights will buy the Premiership if they have to. Good luck to them.

    Comment by Lionheart — February 11, 2007 @ 1:48 pm

  12. I’ve heard that rumor, but is led to believe he is going stay with roona. If he did leave for them he’d have to out train then wait for peters to have a bad game to get an shot as starting no.1. Unless eamon would drop his dual premiership keeper for his new signing? who knows but i’m sure both keepers wouldn’t stand for it, shame having two great keepers stuck in one club, taroona wouldn’t be much without mckenna either. have the knights got money? Doubt it highly loinheart, werent’ they run by a 21 year old last year and have nothing to show?

    Comment by Roona Rabbit — February 11, 2007 @ 3:09 pm

  13. knights dont have to buy any premiership, they have won the last 2 leauge titles very easy without buying or paying any members of there team and theres probly only 1 or 2 team that will challenge them fot this years title but will not be good enough over the whole season

    Comment by mike — February 12, 2007 @ 2:26 pm

  14. mike you cant be serious?
-”they have won the last 2 leauge titles very easy without buying or paying any members of there team”

    Comment by jeffery — February 12, 2007 @ 7:02 pm

  15. jeffery can you name any players who would have been brought or paid to go to the knights in the 2 championships they won i dont think you will be able to name any

    Comment by mike — February 12, 2007 @ 10:51 pm

  16. have any of the players come through the junior ranks…do knights HAVE junior ranks?! i see they are desperate for U-19 players. Thats no suprise is it?

    Comment by jeffery — February 12, 2007 @ 11:01 pm

  17. just because they didnt come thru the junior ranks doesnt mean they brought or are paying the players to pay there, look at most clubs and you will see that over half the players at every club did not play junior soccer there, maybe ppl play for knights because its a great team and they want to win things

    Comment by mike — February 13, 2007 @ 12:29 am

  18. EG. of Knights “Youth development” program: taking Matty Sanders off Metro once they’d developed him, Ben Peters from Clarence, Corey Smith & Jadyn Wiggins from Zebra’s (& Metro & DOSA before them) & so on…. Mike, if you dont believe the two premierships were bought, I think you’re just in denial.

    Comment by K — February 13, 2007 @ 9:08 am

  19. yeh ok none of these players played junior levels at knights, sanders did play juniors at metro, same with wiggins but peter and smith played juniors at new norfolk so you can not say they were junior players at clarence or zebras when infact smith was only at zebras for 1 season , also these players will not have been paid maybe they just wanted to play with there mates and at a succsesfull club

    Comment by mike — February 13, 2007 @ 11:33 am

  20. But when one of them was asked back to his former club he responded with something along the lines of ‘only if you’ve got the money to pay out knights to release me’. The current Knights team is the most talented group of individuals in the state. I wouldnt even try to deny that, but to suggest there’s anything like the club culture and loyalty clubs like Sth Hobart, Kingborough, Clarence, etc. have built up from WITHIN their own ranks is ludicrous.. It’s like pretending Chelsea’s recent success is due to long term strategies set in place 10 years ago - living in a fantasy world :)

    Comment by K — February 13, 2007 @ 2:20 pm

  21. I just want to make it clear that I am staying at Taroona, I havent been approached by the Knights at all. Plus they dont need me as they have Ben Peter, Ben Peter was in the best two keepers in the state last year and Mr Kelly has all the faith in the world that he can help lead them to another premiership. Goodluck to them.

    Comment by Mike Mckenna — February 13, 2007 @ 2:41 pm

  22. I agree with mike, if you can name one player to be paid by the knights over the past 2 years it’s news to my, and the rest of the teams ears! they didn’t take any players either, they chose to go there and because we are all good mates, we and they rest of the boys WANT to be there. Have a look at what a bunch of great mates and Skillful and talented players can do…. 2 flags, and near every trophy availible over 2yrs…

    Comment by Barry Dawson(shining knight) — February 13, 2007 @ 3:08 pm

  23. Technically, the Knights don’t pay their players but various members/supporters of the club do “sponsor” individual players. Therefore, these payments are made without the Club’s knowledge!!!!
You can’t stop what you don’t know is occuring. Those that think that Ladic and co are playing just for the love of the game are dreaming.

    Comment by Beckett — February 13, 2007 @ 3:53 pm

  24. Good luck at Taroona Mike. All power to you. ;-)

    Comment by Blackjack — February 13, 2007 @ 4:18 pm

  25. blackjack can you make a post for each club?

    Comment by jeffery — February 13, 2007 @ 4:27 pm

  26. Firstly thanks blackjack and secondly im sure the players at Knights dont get paid and if there are any that expect to be paid they should take a good look at themselves. If you think you are good enough to be paid you should be playing on the mainland. No one should be paid to play down here, the money should be invested in more inportant things. I know for one that olympic paid me a small sum of money when I first moved down here and I didnt deserve it.

    Comment by Mike Mckenna — February 13, 2007 @ 5:30 pm

  27. OK. Great site blackjack- some good news gossip on here, some others bit less to be desired. It’s open for dicussion of course. Making it interesting hey. I’m new here and heard a rumor that’s wrong. lets set some things strait Huh shall we. First, i’d like to thank you Mike for the flattering comments on here, but you know as well as others who’s a good keeper here & who ins’t. But thanks again. Appreicated. Some others may & will have different views i’m sure. lol. The topic of are knights paying for premierships, well, i will say this once and once only nobody at the Glenorchy Knights is getting paid. Full stop. End OF ANY discusion for that topic please. it’s silly. To K & Beckett There are some very nice people at the knights & if a patron wants to sponsor someone to play and help out with some cash for rego or totally sponsor them for rego, Just have a look at the name on the right arm of anys players shirt from last years strip, not the new one’s yet, and you will see the name of the person who helped that particular player on the field. But didn’t pay them! It’s a great idea and if we are lucky to have this option, i’m sure others clubs just havent’t thought of the idea yet or somthing. But that’s not to say that people are lining up to sponsor a player to get them at knights. That’s crap. we are all the very best of mates and that brought everyone who’s here, here. The fact everyone at knights is a great footballer is a massive bonus. Have you ever noticed we all hang out, and party together away from soccer too, show’s we all like each and all want to play together. Thanks, sorry it’s a tad long blackjack… :-)

  29. BP…(Ben Peters perhaps??), have you ever thought of a career in politics??

    QUOTE
“…nobody at the Glenorchy Knights is getting paid. Full stop. End of ANY discussion…(but)…if a patron wants to sponsor someone to play and help out with some cash for rego or totally sponsor them for rego….But didn’t pay them!!!”

BEN, THAT’S GETTING PAID!!!! Just by another name. Sponsorship = paid + Paid = sponsorship. Is that a care promise or not?? Fancy a tilt at the Federal ALP leadership? Or maybe you’ll hold out for the State ALP, Lennon is about overdone by now!!!

Best one I’ve heard in weeks.

    Comment by Roundball Specialist — February 13, 2007 @ 10:31 pm

  30. Funny you should mention that sj, I’d heard Smith was heading down here to do junior clinics & you could bet your bottom dollar that won’t be with FFT sanctioning. Not sure if the move is permanent or purely on a casual basis. Would Zebras being paying him to do these?? Is he here now or arriving soon?

    Comment by Stripes — February 13, 2007 @ 10:36 pm

  31. Did anyone get any results from the preseason tournament in Launy over the weekend? (Zebras, L.City, D’port & Granville Spirit)

    Comment by Roundball Specialist — February 13, 2007 @ 11:01 pm

  32. just because someone is getting sponserd doesnt mean the money is going into the own pocket, they get there rego paid for and maybe a pair of boots and thats it, as benny said the boys at knights play there because they are a great bunch of blokes and play for eachother on the field and thats y they have had so much success over the past 2 to 3 seasons

    Comment by mike — February 13, 2007 @ 11:08 pm

  33. yes i agree with mike mckenna that ben peter is the best keep in tasmania at the current moment, also a rumor floating around is that the knights have signed a guy called ben trott who eamonn kelly has been very impressed with at training and could fill the centre midfield role even tho ladic is back

    Comment by booya — February 13, 2007 @ 11:16 pm

  34. Semantics!! Sponsorship is payment - be it for advsertising, rego, boots, in kind returns, etc.

If I used the arguement you guys are using it would mean I NEVER get paid cause my ’sponsorship’ goes for; taxman, school fees, food, car, etc., etc., etc.

Don’t tell anyone but a lot of clubs and their patrons, especially in the days of the old State League, used to pay (sorry, sponsor) their players in this way. It’s not anything new and it’s not illegal so don’t be so defensive guys.

  35. The rumour mill is in overdrive at Taroona Football club with news Sierra Leone star Alfred ” Arnie” Caulker will make his return to the club and form a formidable strike partnership with Ben ” Raffers ” Rafferty

    Comment by donkey punch — February 14, 2007 @ 3:36 am

  36. From a current player not from the Knights set up who really cares if they do or if they do not pay thier players. You win a miniscule amount of money if you win a trophy and if you are silly enough or have that much cash to throw around then congratulations. I don’t believe that the Knights pay their players, they have a relatively settled squad and have had for a few years, they are the group of players that play the most effective football, I don’t believe that they have had in the past the best squad, I still believe that South have that, but a better team can still beat a better squad etc etc. Football in Tas is an expensive hobby, why do we care if a club supposedly pays or not, in this day and age a fool(s) and their money are soon parted. The Knights are all good mates and I don’t see any of them running off to join another club, whether they are paid or not.

    Comment by charlie white — February 14, 2007 @ 8:57 am

  37. Speaking to a Taroona coach last weekend and he informs me Taroona “smashed” Metro in a trial match. The defeat was also described as “embarressing” and “awful”. No mention was made of the scoreline but I was left with the imprssion it could easily have been double figures.

Corey Smith is at Knights NOT Metro

    Comment by Lionheart — February 14, 2007 @ 8:58 am

  38. Dear round ball specialist,
I’m glad your good at revieling my indentinty. It’s there for all the “çlever” people to work out and see. Congrats. Oh but get the name right first please old son. lol It’s not anyhting new or illigegal so don’t be so defensive” Sorry you must have that part wrong, the topic was put on there by somone and i just helped clear any of it up. Not being defensive at all. Just stating the facts. By means of getting paid, that to me and many others, getting money in your pocket after playing a game is getting paid, Like Youngster M.sanders, Just about earning a living playing on the mainland. Here No. sorry we are not getting paid. Sponsorship is a type of payment yes, but we don’t get to spend a cent of it, I’m sure whatever team you may play for has a sponsor on the front of your shirt, So the club and individuals are getting money yeah, so are you saying your getting paid too? Clearly you haven’t seen that money, like us, but it’s sponsorship hey… don”t be so defensive.

Do i detect a hint of maybe jealously, Did we beat you last year? saying we bought premierships is bullshit. Anyone that personally knows any player on the knights team from any other club will know we are not paid. The people there want to be there at knights not because of money!

  39. Thank you Charlie for your level headed input, welcomed by all mate.

    Comment by BP — February 14, 2007 @ 9:33 am

  40. Lionheart, just to clear things up Taroona reserves with a few first graders played metro reserves. The score was 4-2, but taroona did have alot more of the ball. Metro seniors actually played a Launceston team before that and i believe the score was 0-0.

    Comment by Mike Mckenna — February 14, 2007 @ 9:58 am

  41. Dear Lionheart,

what nightclub did you run into the Taroona coach at, and more importantly, what time of the morning was it ?

I understand that Taroona used their full squad and played a combination of Metro Reserves and Under 19s. It certainly wasn’t Metro Premier side as they had just played Launceston in the game preceeding that.

With regard to the score if the coach said that, I reckon he was having a lend of you or should have been several time over. I understand in football as opposed to Australian Rules you only get 1 point for a goal and not 6, so not sure where the double score came from.

Very refreshing to see people like Mike McKenna put some reality into some of this.

  42. Hobart UTD beat Nelson 3-2 in a friendly last weekend.

    Comment by mother africa — February 14, 2007 @ 1:41 pm

  43. Results of the weekend
Friday Devonport 2 South Hobart 3. South blitzed the port for the 1st 35 minutes then went to sleep or got bored depends who you talk to .

Gladesville Spirit 3 Lton City 0 Should have been 9-3

    Saturday

Lton City 1 Devonport 0 terrible game between two understrength sides .

Gladesville 1 South Hobart 0 Cracking game . Only saw 1st half . South more than held their own but had to work very very hard . Harder than any of us do in our local comp . The Spirit didnt like the game being taken to them . They were hard ,very fast and moved the ball about constantly. Two red cards in the 2nd half , one either side.
Their warm up procedure was an education.

    Comment by Brian — February 14, 2007 @ 2:09 pm

  44. the other thing is Lionheart, you said you were speaking to a Taroona coach?? We only have Rhodes as our coach and i would be very suprised if he was making those types of statements.

    Comment by Mike Mckenna — February 14, 2007 @ 2:49 pm

  45. In response to silverstones commenst i can confirm that was not a full strength Taroona side but a combination of under nineteens and a few reserve players maybe even far down as under sixteen. The scoreline may not indicate a lot but having played in the game it was evident to see after ten minutes metro were never in it and were outplayed just to put it nicely

    Comment by Dropping Logs — February 14, 2007 @ 3:46 pm

  46. “we are ALL the very best of mates”, I do recall reading an article by walter pless which had one of the knights players claiming the team was full of players with big egos.

    Comment by jeffery — February 14, 2007 @ 4:05 pm

  47. I think we need to move on from attacking the Knights. Whatever has been happening at the club, has been working they have just won back to back Premierships. I love playing against the knights, they are cocky, arrogant and hate losing. I love beating teams like that… Not that it has happened much!

    Comment by Mike Mckenna — February 14, 2007 @ 4:53 pm

  48. “Dropping Logs”, that’s fine, you might want to have a talk to Mike McKenna, who is a bloke I believe has credibilty. He said, and I quote ” Lionheart, just to clear things up, Taroona reserves with a few first graders played Metro reserves”. Now I wouldn’t expect Mike to know that several under 19’s and people who had not even played at that level played for the Metro reserves on the day. However I would have expected that he would have known who played for Taroona on the day. Maybe the few first graders that he mentioned weren’t senior players at all, or, those that he referred to haven’t come up to scratch and are now reserves or under 19 standard if your right in wht you say about none playing.

Anyway, I’m sure you’ll put us right.

My other suggestion is that it is well worth remembering the we don’t start playing for points for another 6 weeks or so. One would imagine much will change between 2 weeks ago and then, so i won’t make any stupid statements about what metro did or didn’t do in a ‘hit out.”

Would also like to know from “Lionheart” if he wasn’t talking to Matthew Rhodes who was he talking to, or was that just a liitle porky ?

    Comment by Silverstone — February 14, 2007 @ 5:37 pm

  49. I don’t like my honesty being questioned and nor do I like revealing my sources. Mike & Silverstone one question to ask you, and it should answer the question of my honesty while at the same time retaining the identity of my source to all but the Taroona club.

Who is the assistant coach of the 19s and is an ex-KLUSC player? It was his words that claimed Metro were outclassed but he didn’t say that it was a reserve squad.

Not that it matters. It’s too early to draw any conclussions from any trial matches just as it would only be a fool who will take anything definitive from the Summer Cup form.

    Comment by Lionheart — February 14, 2007 @ 6:12 pm

  50. Lionheart,

I’m not that smart so I don’t entirely understand the gist of the question to Mike and myself. However doesn’t matter. The thing is the information was incorrect which hopefully has now been shown to be not quite true (the conversation as relayed to you that is, not whether it happened), and, agree 100% with your last paragraph.

Your last point was what I was hoping to convey to Dropping Log. “Its such a long, long way to go….”

    Comment by Silverstone — February 14, 2007 @ 8:46 pm

  51. yeah jeff, you did read that, correct, it was fishy. We all had a laugh about it! Ha. In a sense it’s a bit true, yeah we may have some, but that brings self confidence within those individuals when things are down. can be a good trait to have sometimes. other times it’s not. But so do other clubs, and really who cares, seriously?? doesn’t mean were not all still best of mates. Only good friends would say something like and take it light heartedly. Made a funny subject at training. like trying to stir things up hey. working well… let’s make a subject worth talking about huh. The result’s, practice games, player movements, and other related gossip would be appreciated & is way more interesting. I’m sure blackjack would agree. Not attacking one club over nothing allegations. Cheers

    Comment by BP — February 14, 2007 @ 9:46 pm

  52. It sounds like the knights don’t need anymore of this banter about them and it would only be giving them more incentive to beat other teams cas of it, and by the sounds of things other clubs dont want them fired up more than necessary. They’d be thriving on this stuff
