  1. Im sorry… But this is a joke! Taroona is the new club in the league, everyone wants to see them play and see if they are any good and FFT go and give them the bye!! Looking forward to the season starting and seeing if all the rumours are true though!!

  2. Well I would imagine that the draw would be done in similar terms to a draw from the hat - to then complain that you have to wait another week is a joke?? You need to get a life….and that comes from person who launched a blog during the off season. I say these things in the nicest possible way) :-)

  3. No offense Blackjack but you have aclub who has never been involved in the Premier league and you leave them on the bench for the first week??? more people would be interested in watching them play to start off with them some of the other games on offer. By the way are you saying these are the same people that organise this draw as the ones who rid us of a final series? that was a smart idea. there biggest money spinner!

  4. I seriously can’t wait to for the summer cup, but mostly the season to start! This will sort the men from the boys. yeah the ref’s (sorry in adavnce) will kill a few games here and there(lol) but at the end of the day it’s going to be i tight season for all. because of this site, every game and the whole season should be hotly anticipated! If we could just get that little bit more in the media now so our game and competition can get the recogntiton it deserves!

  5. Mike
    - the clubs failed to vote for the final series;
    - the draws fall the way they do - some would say there is a benefit in an extra weeks training and a free look at all your opponents.

  6. we now want to rig the draw to have certain teams playing at certain times? Random draws are the major reason behind, well, random draws. If we wanted a game to start the season off right surely it would be 1 vs 2 from last year, but lets be honest the summer cup in my humble opinion is simpy practice games for the league proper. Im sure that others will disagree and tell me that its a good comp to win etc etc, why? 30 minute halves with 45 minute half final. players being unable to drop down a division if they are injured etc, penalty shoot outs to decide a game, obviously the best team always wins!

  7. Fair enough sj, but to not have a finals series is a disgrace and I heard it was beciase of the North of the state that we dont have the votes. We are the only state in Australia that doesnt have a final series… This is one of the main reasons we are so far behind. the Tasmanian comp is the youngest comp in the league and without finals, there are teams that can be out of the chase at a very early stage, what then are the incentives to train? You play to win the comp do you not? I know I do! Fair enough that first past the post is the winner, but even the A League has finals!

  8. I think what Mike McKenna has said sums up the isseue. “Fair enough that first past the post is the winner” - is that how we want it to be? AFL has minor premier but if you do not win the grand final you are nothing. That is what we should have, in the past we have had 3 different teams who could claim to be the best team in the state, League champions, statewide cup champions and final five series. FFT make a decision and have some guts to follow through and please don’t put the final on Grand Final day, just to prove a point which is not there to be proven.

  9. A final series - is just that a final series - you win the league you are acknowledged Champions - winners - El Champion - Melbourne Victory are top dogs winners of the league .
The A League plays a final series in 4 weeks some 140,000 people through the gates to watch the final series - fans speaking with their feet and hard earned dollars.

If FFT don’t want a final series maybe the clubs should run their own - make some real money instead of sending it all to the governing body .

Come on SJ talk to your fellow staff and board give us a final series !!!!

  10. final series are the only way to go, players enjoy playing in the finals and it gives them sumtim to play for later in the year if the title is over so early like it has been the last 3 years

  11. for the record i spoke vehemently against dropping the final series, but in the end the support from south was, as i understand it, 4 for 3 against and the otheres didnt bother to go to the meeting!! This did not give an overwhelming picture of support from the southern clubs.
As i have already said IF the clubs want a final series then they need to convince FFT that they do. It will not be enough for one or two clubs to want it - it needs to be at least 8 of the ten clubs. So if as a player you want a final series talk to your club committee!!

  12. yeah but you as a staff member - not a director - now you have left maybe you can assist at a club level and confince the Uni - King and South Hobart it is of value

    Comment by player — February 15, 2007 @ 11:14 pm

  13. good guess - but contrary to a somewhat popular view - I am neither a director nor employee nor former employee. I am club based supporter only. I do however make my views known to employees and directors and receive feedback regularly from a number of sources.

  14. No there’s a temptation for a new topic??

    Who is SJ?? :-D

    Comment by Blackjack — February 15, 2007 @ 11:45 pm

  15. Blackjack who cares , if SJ wants to parade on your blog site as FFT mouth peice let him, it makes great reading , yes minister on blackjack!!

    Comment by smudger — February 16, 2007 @ 8:07 am

  16. I reckon SJ should either put up or shut up. If he doesn’t work for FFT then he shouldn’t speak for them and he’s certainly been their mouthpiece or at least an apologist for them.

    Comment by Roundball Specialist — February 16, 2007 @ 10:40 am

  17. Roundball let’s try and tone it down. I’m sure if FFT object to SJ posting on their behalf then they will contact him and tell him to ‘can it’. Until that time he is more than welcome post whatever he chooses as long as he isn’t in breach of the forum regulations: ‘No personal abuse’ (please read my e-mail to you on this topic)

    Decorum gentle people. :-)

  18. SJ do you speak for and on behalf of FFT? I ask this without malice and without any intent. I just don’t understand that you can be privy to all this information, e.g. the board investigating V-League, without being a member of the FFT board or office.

    Comment by Channel Charlie — February 16, 2007 @ 7:57 pm

  19. Channel Charlie - as i said earlier - I am a club based supporter only. And I certainly dont speak for or on behalf of FFT. I just keep my eyes and ears open. I think you will find that most club administrations have access to a lot more information than they disseminate to their members - and FFT, in the main, leave it to each individual club to decide how much detail is circulated.
