Rumours, gossip, player movements - Pt.IV

Filed under: Uncategorized — Blackjack @ 10:00 am

Boy, you lot really do enjoy a great story…

All your rumours, innuendo & gossip in here. It just helps to keep all the topics small enough to be manageable.

Keep the gossip coming guys but try and keep it creditable and try not to pick on the Knights so much, they don’t need any excuses to play better and most of them don’t need any excuses to get send off either!! HAHAHAHA :-D

  2. Whilst checking out other State web sites , saw that Vics are looking to increase their Premier League by up to 4 interstate clubs .

What a great opportunity for Tassie to go forward !!

Could we put a club together to represent the State ??

Who would you have coaching ?

What players would you select from current players in Tassie?

What would you pay the players ? given that they would need to train 3-4 nights a week , travel on weekends.

    Were could we play?

What sort of staff and budget would we require?

just dreaming I know but as one gets older one tends to do that !!

  3. There are allways comments that there is no place to go for our elite youth. Anyone thats any good has to look to the mainland if they want to play at a higher level. In Theory, a Tas team playing in the Vic Premier League is a logical and simple solution. Is it a practical solution? Would be great to see!!

    Comment by DeB8 — February 15, 2007 @ 10:16 am

  4. Sent off…The Victorian Premier League has already expanded it’s competition to 16 teams. The four new teams will include the AIS squad which is the only non-Victorian team.

The good news for Tasmania “IF” FFT choose to go down that path, is the VPL will split at the end of the 2007 season and ALL clubs will be invited to apply for a licence for the new V-League set to be opened for the 2008 season. This would be a great opportunity to inject a Tassie squad.

This will no doubt lead to some good debate so I’ll post a seperate discussion topic.

  5. Gee Blackjack that looks logical , wouldn’t have thought you would get in a comp starting in March 2007 - but still my mistake for not having included 2008 in my post.
Please note that on FFV web delay in VPL league dates

  6. Emanual Roussos has been deposed as Olympic President by Steve Kaproulias. This rumour surfaced some time ago but has only come to pass in the last 48hours.

One wonders if the ‘love in’ between Roussos and Farrel Shaw that was so evident at the 2006 Vic Tuting dinner will be carried through to the new president.

    Good luck lads.

  7. Just to clear the air before the rumours fly in.
Emanual stepped down as president on Wednesday night. He is still on the committee but relised it was time for someone else worthy to take over the reins as he been in the job for nearly 3-4 years.
Emanual is more than happy to be releaved of one of the biggest jobs in Tasmanian Soccer.
New president is Steve Kaproulias, father of current player Paul. Many will know Steve as he was in charge many years ago.
Be prepared for egg on your face if you write Olympic off.

  8. is that poached or fried egg???
Kaproulias is very much about being top dog !!!
watch the cheque book come out !!!

  9. welcome back Steve, at least he wont be writing his own name on the team sheet everyweek! and leaving good younger players out

    Comment by Koptite — February 17, 2007 @ 8:25 am

  10. also heard today that since Steve K has taken over as the new president that new sponsors have come forward to assisist the club as well as the loved coaches position is in jeopardy Go Tony Tarros to replace him.

    Comment by Koptite — February 17, 2007 @ 9:23 pm

  11. I bet now that Roussos has been ousted, Which is exactly what is has been. More players will play for Olympic. A consortium approached the club and he was voted out. Be honest about it. Plus this is directed at Olympic committee member which I would say is Nektar because he is the only one who would stick up for him, Unless Olympic pick up some mainland players or get a whole new forward stucture they arent going to improve at all. You have some good players there in Tsakiris and Tracey, Backhaus and on his day Dimitri. Congrats to Steve though, its great to see a change at Olympic. Geez did they need it!

    • I’m going to permit this comment purely to have a view from the other side but this will not turn into a “mine’s bigger than yours” debate. It’s over. Let’s now get on with the season and leave the final word for the results on the park.  -   Blackjack

  12. If tony tarros takes over any coaching role at olympic i think there would be more departures than arrivals.
Congrats to steve on taking over but for olympic to do well the committee must keep away from on field goings on and let farrell do his job. Also good to see roussos stay on with the committee. Steves first call of business should be to hire a reserves coach.

We will see how olympic fare this week.
    Good luck boys

  13. Does anyone know who is actually coaching up at University? There are many different rumours…

    Comment by Mike Mckenna — February 19, 2007 @ 3:29 pm

  14. Mike, according to Walter Pless Mathew Shaw has the reins at Uni.

I haven’t heard any news from the Students. Have they started training yet. I ask this simply because they usually use the Summer Cup for their preseason conditioning and fitness.

    Can anyone supply any info?

    Comment by Blackjack — February 19, 2007 @ 4:06 pm

  15. Yeah thats cool, I have just heard different things from players at training thats all.

    Comment by Mike Mckenna — February 19, 2007 @ 4:14 pm

  16. I would just like to say congratulations to Steve K and goodluck. Im glad that olympic have made a change for the better of the club. But I do want to say the Roussos and Nektar put alot of time, effort and their own funds into that club and believe that they need to stay apart of that new committee… The amount of effort they put into the club was second to none…

    Comment by Mike Mckenna — February 19, 2007 @ 4:52 pm

  17. Mike, thanks for the advice, will take that on board.

    • edited by Blackjack who’s tired of the bitchiness and snide remarks from supposedly mature adults. There will be no more posts accepted from current or ex Olympic members who are offering advice on how business at the club should, or shouldn’t be run. Take it somewhere else. :-(

  19. i am told it would only cost three hundred and fifty thousand to get a
team in the v.league i am shaw the goverment can help here lets get
a new home ground like the showgrounds and work like a team and
get this up and running ours players should have a chance to play
at this level i think it better to take the risk and fail than not take one at all.

  20. Who are Woodbridge Warriors? Which league will they play in during the season proper . Best of luck to them

We need lots of new Clubs giving young people the opportunity to play at an affordable cost.

Have Kingston Cannons been promoted to Div 1 ?

    Comment by Brian — February 20, 2007 @ 9:23 am

  21. Sorry Brian, I don’t agree about needing lots of new clubs. Man power is spread thin now, not to mention lack of playing facilities. I’d prefer to see a concentration of efforts but perhaps more teams entered to give those young people their chance. Registration is still very affordable by most standards. Nearly all clubs have a rego fee still set below $300 and when you consider hockey is twice this cost & a gym membership is $500-700, playing football is still a cheap option.

Woodbridge Warriors are the remnants of the Woodbridge Whalers U/16 team from a year or two ago with probably a few ‘ring-ins’. They are purely social from what I can gather, eg they had their first training run last thursday (although some of the social teams might say this is a sure sign of professionalism) and don’t have too many great aspirations other than to have a kick and enjoy themselves doing it. I’m not sure if Woodbridge will play in the social league or if they are just a ‘Summer Cup’ outfit

To my knowledge, Cannons have not been promoted to Div.1 they are merely playing the Summer Cup in Div.1, for whatever reason.

While on the subject of Cannons, I am informed that they have been ‘evicted’ from Gormley Park. Cannons will now ’share’ facilities at Sherberd Park with Christian United.

In a swap, Kingborough Lions have relinquished their grasp on their old home ground and have since transferred to Gormley Park (as well as Lightwood). This move will probably be good for Kingborough as it sets them up to have a ‘Football Estate’ in the area (Lightwood & Gormley Parks back onto each other, just with different entry points). My Kingborough source informs me that once lights are installed (being done as I write), Gormley Park will become the ‘training venue’ for Kingborough Lions seniors but it will also be the ground on which some of their youth games will be played.

    Comment by Blackjack — February 20, 2007 @ 9:56 am

  22. Matthew, if you read the above comments ’some’ are suggesting that the time isn’t right to take such a move (everyone agrees with the concept)…….I am not saying forget the idea.

I suggest looking at it the other way….. How do you define failure for this particular topic (V-league)?? Aim to get a team in asap into the league supported or non supported by the FFT and there is probably a heighten probability for failure (unchartered territory, limited FFT [if any] or Government support, etc) or spend the time, effort, resources in getting FFT in shape first, with then one of the FFT’s main objectives being to enter into the V-League. The second approach has lower risk than the first option. Matthew, you can’t be short sighted with these kind of decisions if you what to make it last and more importantly build and expand soccer (football) in Tas to be the number one sport (surely the goal?). The opportunity is here for movement for the FFT, just look at the attendance, reaction (media etc) the A league final….. Get the right bums on the seats at KGV and on the Board of FFT and Tassie can capitalise on the window of opportunity that is currently present in soccer for this nation at the moment.

  23. yeh there are alot of things to look at before we jump in to a v leauge team, but there is no way more ppl are going to start attending games in tasmania when the quality of the soccer is not getting better, i personally think we should have more games like the state mens team vs south melbourne and the state 23s vs melb knights games wich were a long time ago but we need to do something like that, even if we had tasmania vs victoria or sumtin like that at the end of the season im sure a huge crowd would turn up to watch it

    Comment by trev — February 20, 2007 @ 12:58 pm

  24. Observer, when is the next FFT elections. Is there sufficient time to replace FFT board, get all the problems sorted AND get a team in the V-League? I don’t think so.

I agree with a previous poster, the clubs should seek FFT approval and submit a team rather than have FFT submit the team.

And no doubt, you’ll be standing for FFT election Observer.

  25. Dear Blackjack
I find it funny when someone from olympc writes in to your blog you always find something that is obscene snide or bitchy as you call it. But when another person writes in and remarks about roussos in the way they have you let it slide. Obviously you are not a fan of olympic. :-} :-]

    Comment by corky — February 20, 2007 @ 10:43 pm

  26. Corky, I have had more trouble from people that have been identified as Olympic members either by their own statements or by inference, than with any other identifiable group or club in Southern Tasmania. So you will have to excuse me, I’m probably just a bit sensitive over the issue.

This should not be misconstrued as me not liking Olympic (the club), more a case of a questionable few within, because Olympic has a wonderful and enviable footballing history in Tasmania.

Ask around at training or meetings and you will find 5-6 people who have been asked to refrain from posting on this site for various reasons. Should I take responsibility for that? (that’s a rhetorical question). This is not for discussion

  29. Has anyone heard whats the go at olympic are they in crisis or are all the problems resolved who is coaching there is it still farell? rumour has tony tarross will leave Hobart United. Also in other big rumour news clarence will making a large money signing from craggy island a small island isolated off the isle of mann. Not sure whether they will be here in time for the summer cup. As far as player movements go taroona soccer club is set to rise with talks that Julian “Madogg” Timmins will be hanging round for the season there is however no word as to where Ben ‘Jacko’ Jackson will be playing with talk that he could ply his trade overseas.

  30. Taroona: 0
    Knights: 5
    Pratice match…

Played at showgrounds on awful bouncy pitch, Taroona seemed to be at full strength not 100% sure, Knights were missing a few key players. Taroona had about 10 chances all up, and knights about 15-20. Not counting corners etc. Alot of changes from the knights bench with a few youngsters getting a taste, and even a young keeper replacing Peters with 10 to go. New signing Mckenna was in goal for taroona. The game was what it seemed to be 3×30mins halfs.
    Very interesting….

    Comment by Barry D — February 22, 2007 @ 8:52 pm

  31. The score was 5-0. Taroona were at full strength… Knights weren’t far from full strength. A couple of errors cost Taroona goals as well as an own goal. NO REFEREE, Have to thank the gentleman from the knights that stood in as ref…. He copped so much crap from the knights players and he is one of them. Knights experience shone on the game but it would be fair to say that Taroona had periods where the knights couldnt keep up. But when you have Huigy and Harrison up front holding the ball up as well as they do for Lincoln, and ladic… Its always going to be hard for any team. Ben Peter didnt have much to do… the only sour points were the ill discipline by the knights once again and Mr Kellys inability to control or have any authority on his team… Id play to watch the knights play every wek, with how great their football can be… But they turn you off by who they are and the way they act on the pitch. Some good performances by Jaden for knights as well as young Marty Cairns when he came on and Ben Peter when called into action. Also Steve at his first game in the back line for Taroona had a fantastic game… Taroona wont have lost anything from this match… Plenty to gain

    Comment by Canweunited — February 23, 2007 @ 9:09 am

  32. If there was a qualified FFT ref at this game the knights would have lost atleast 2 players.

    Comment by united — February 23, 2007 @ 9:55 am

  33. two players? I think they would be lucky there more than two players from the knights camp let fly and I was thinking more like four could have marched. But in saying that Taroona stirred the fracas just as much, but the ill discipline may cost them that elusive title this year

  34. rumor has it melbourne knights will be down next weekend to play glenorchy knights

    Comment by trev — February 26, 2007 @ 11:31 pm

  35. Trev,
Your so right Melbourne Knights will be playing a game against Glenorchy Knights on Sunday the 11th March, KO 11.00am @ KGV as part of our 50th year Annivesery, offers have gone out to a few other clubs for the opportunity for them to put players names forward, if they wish to take part, but as of todays date no responces have come forward.
Don’t forget we all talk about entering a team into the Vic State League but is that all we are going to do again ?? the opportunity is there lets get behind it for a change and think out-side the circle for ONCE

  37. great oppertunity for every1 to see the level wich you have to be at to compete in this leauge

    Comment by trev — February 28, 2007 @ 10:24 pm

  38. Eamonn I’m not sure I get your drift. Are you suggesting there is a connection between the desire to play in this ‘celebration’ match and the possibility of entering a team in the V-League? Surely not?

Frankly, I’m not the least bit surprised you have had no response from the clubs about their players playing in the Knight’s celebration match. If I was a club coach and my star player went off to play in some match that meant nothing to him and/or his club, and then picked up a season ending injury, or even a knock that put him out for 2-3 weeks, I’d be ropeable. I would even go as far as to suggest if one of my players went off to play for Knights in this match I’d have him in the reserves so quick his head would spin.

It’s great that this means something to the Knights lads and the Croatian community and I’m sure everyone wishes Glenorchy Knights F.C. all the best for their 50th Anninversary but it’s something you guys have to celebrate ‘in house’ not turn in into some pseudo representative match.

  41. Who’s is you players blackjack? Kinbourough peharps….. I agree with you about injury’s etc, but it would be up to the individual to make that decision to play, we are all almost grown men here. maybe they’d like a chance to impress without going over to melb itself. The celebartion is for the knights 50th year in soccer, and good on them if they want to share thier efforts i say.

    Comment by Offside Trap — March 1, 2007 @ 2:34 pm

  42. Honestly… Who are the Melbourne Knights now? They play Premier in Victoria. Who are you going to impress? that you already couldn’t. As a player i think it is great that they are coming down to play, but honestly why would you risk an injury if you were from another club… Plus if you come from another club and you think you are going to impress, think again!!! It takes time to work yourself into the knights team and to learn how to play with them…
I do think it is a great thing for the Knights though and wish them the best of luck.

  45. Don’t know if anyone else saw the expose done by sbs the other afternoon on Sydney Olympic and the role that these ex-nsl clubs have in the new era of ffa. Interesting stuff and the view was, by SO, at least was that they were now in the business of producing players for the A-League, as none of A-league clubs actually have any kind of development of their own yet. Melbourne Knights are a great team with a lot of tradition and silverware to match. Good on the Knights for bringing them over to play, not my cup of tea to go and play with the Knights (if it was I would be there) but a great initiative. As one of the few players who played against South Melbourne when they came down who is still playing, it was a bloody tough game and I touched the ball very few times…
