Womens hockey can be alright. :) Any game shown on tv is a plus. Do people really care if the AFL grand final is a shocker, take the final a couple years ago between the pies and lions, no one gave the pies a chance, but it rained they played well and the game was close.

Winston & Silverstone...I think we'll wind-up this conversation now that it has descended into personal insult. Nothing constructive will come from it. It's good to see some passion though!! Thank you.

Last time I checked Clarence was a City and Kingborough a Municipality... but what would I know?

South Hobart generally play good exciting free flowing football, I would go watch a Knights V South game any day.

I've not said anything about results but if you want people to come and sit through 90 minutes... kick and run will insure they don't come back.

Kingborough have done very well over the past few seasons and have a few very good players. I hear they are a bit underdone so far this year.

Winston,

No reading crap doesn't normally enlighten me at all. For once in my life I don't know what to say. I'm bloody flabbergasted at reading crud like you've just put on here.

Remind me again where Clarence & Kingborough finished last year. I'm surprised you didn't throw South Hobart into the mix, after all the rest of the suburban clubs made the list. Strange that !

Winston, I would be interested in knowing what your footballing background is, bearing in mind your comments made on the 28th. Suggesting that a team that finishes in the top 2-3 teams of the league would not be worth watching, in promoting the 'game', is ludicrous. Anyone that has watched/played enough football over the years should be smart enough to think otherwise. Anyone with a football brain would and should be envious of what Kingborough stands for and promotes, both on and off the field.

As far as Metro & Clarence are concerned, the standard of play perceived by you may or not be good enough, however the local talent they are promoting will develop sooner rather than later, leaving comments like yours in the 'dug out' where they belong.

This the 1000th (published) post on the Blackjack blog. Congratulations!!! You have won a 12 month subscription to this blog. :-) Frankly, I didn't think we'd get here as quickly as we have, and we're only in our second week of the season. Way to go peoples!

Silverstone, if Southern Premier League games were to be televised and the league was attempting to attract more followers, supporters and players to the games I think those teams could do a lot to improve the way they play the game. I don't doubt their efforts, time or commitment to getting the best result they are capable of, however, lets face it in the last 5 or so seasons I have never witnessed Metro or Clarence play a match I would go out of my way to watch (even though I have :-s). Does that enlighten you? I understand it is hard when at the end of the day coaches just need to get the 3 points however they can or hold on for a draw, but it does produce some ugly football.

Winston, would tyou like to give the players, committee and the many supporters of Metro, Kingborough and Clarence the benefit of what was swirling around inside your brain when you made the comment about letting people watch those sides play ?

I'm ready to be enlightened.

If a State League can't be supported for Australian Rules (who have a much larger following and access to greater sponsorship dollars) how do we expect to propose one for our own game? The previous incarnation did not survive because a club like Devonport City could not afford to travel every second week to Hobart without compensation. Southern Clubs would complain about having to travel once a year. There is no reason why Southern Premier games couldn't be shown on ABC TV. The Hockey shown is not a Statewide competition and i dare say it is only shown because someone is on good terms with ABC management. However, beware promoting a game between sides like Metro, Clarence or to a lesser extent Kingborough... I would shudder at the thought of letting people from outside the football fraternity view such a game. Although it may incourage them to play more attractive football so that would be a good thing.
