  3. The Uruguay match in Sydney.

In 1974 I was a kid sitting in the stands with my father as we watched the 1974 Socceroos qualify for Germany. To be doing that again with my son beside me was just pure magic. My Dad wasn’t there as he had passed away a few years prior but I ‘felt’ him there with us. A very special moment and one I will hold right to the grave.

  5. I have many fond memmories of world cups mainly highlights but compared to lionhearts post I dont think anything i have will come close to that. As the father of a young boy I can only hope to have a moment like that sometime soon.

  9. The atmosphere after the Croatia game in Stuttgart was just unbelievable. The whole two or so weeks in Germany were amazing. Every single moment of it. Will always remember the packed trains in Munich before the Brazil game and walking up to the Allianz Arena. Definetely some video footage there wont be deleting in a hurry

  10. By far my best memory of the world cup was at the 82min of the socceroo vs japan game.
With 10 mins to go I said 2 my mate “would be happy with a pt here if we can get it ”
Then 2 go on to win it was unreal and the socceroo fans went off hugging any1 near ya.
Kaiserslautern was a great ground and town !!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. No reason why I can’t have a go at this too:

My world cup experience was from a pub near Loch Lomond (business/pleasure trip). It was a Scottish pub and I was the only Aussie but after the Japan game the locals happily became honorary Australians. It got to the stage where they’d all turn up to watch the match dressed in green and gold and all sorts of stuffed Australian toy animals to add atmosphere. Brilliant experience and something I’ll never forget.

  12. I was in England for the first two(-ish) games, just escaped from Berlin and Munich a week before the games, and it was going nuts there already.

It was great the reactions that we Aussies got from the Brits.
Before the first match: “Why do you even bother / you’ve got no chance”
After the first match: “Oh, so you won a World Cup Match finally?”
After the second match: “*nervous fidget* … Uhh, so, congrats. At least we won the Ashes!”

    heh-heh.

  13. Must be Lucas Neil Spam!!
Funny how before the World Cup everybody down here was talking about the match with Brazil, and now it gets hardly mentioned.
However aussies should be really proud of the Socceroos !
Winning the Asian Cup would be another milestone

  14. Loch Lomond? Desperate times?

Definitely finishing an exam monday, pub monday night Cahill rewrites history, cant sleep for the excitement… up at 8am, fall asleep in the library, no doze, enter exam at 1pm wearing the green and gold slyly smirking at glimpses of other baggy eyed fans and walk out of the exam failing a whole section… wouldnt change it for the world… only maybe a world cup perhaps

  16. kalac and his ‘wonder save’!!! i say wonder save becuase he did it deliberatly to add tension to the end of the game. An aussie tendency since…. well for ever, CANT THEY JUST WIN BY A COUPLE GOALS FOR ONCE?
