FFT AGM

Filed under: Uncategorized — Blackjack @ 10:57 am

Would anyone like to inform the footballing public as to what may have taken place at the AGM last night? That is if a quorum was actually reached so the AGM could go ahead.

  1. The Premier League will remain a ten team competition, an optional under 18’s league is offered in lieu of the 19’s competition, an immediate halt to Premier league sides entering a div 1 side.

  2. Do you mean Kingborough & South Hobart can’t play Div.1 this year?? Or from 2008??

    Comment by Lionheart — March 29, 2007 @ 5:35 pm

  3. interesting about the exclusion of the premier league clubs in div 1.

    Comment by Borat — March 29, 2007 @ 5:55 pm

  4. All i know is that is stated in a report the ‘Immediate Halt’

  5. Sounds like the AGM vote gave the right choice… may I suggest that Lionheart’s mental state may now be in danger? his beloved Kingborough isn’t going to have a div 1 side.

Good point though - will it be this year or 2008?

  6. Canweunited…before taking this as gospel and everyone getting heated can you quote the source of this “report” you refer to. Do you hold an ‘official’ position that quailifies you to release this information?

  7. OK - as far as I’m aware, Kingborough have never stacked their Div 1 side - there have occasionally been players who have played Premier who have been dropped, or are returning from injury, but that means someone else rated better has gone up!

There is, of course, the potential for it to happen - in 1991, playing for Nelson in Division 2, we played Croatia in the 2nd last game for the title, and lo!, Brendan Lakoseljac, Sacha Puclin and Dallas Joiner appeared against us!

The big reason for having the Div 1/Premier dichotomy, however, is to deal with the promotion/relegation issue. The proposed (now real?) FFT setup effectively establishes a 2-tier Premier League, with all the clubs included, bar maybe Cannons and Barnstoneworth.

In my opinion, it’s not a bad idea, as long as they bloody stick to it this time! I’ve been playing since 1983, and the number of structure changes has just been ludicrous.

  8. If this so call “report” is true it sounds like FFT have final step up and done the right thing in not allowing premier league clubs to have div 1 sides. It final gives clubs like Beachside who are filled with talent to have a future and not lose there better younger players to premier league sides in the future.

  9. Magician I must say, if you can’t win the Div.1 comp against Kingborough & South Hobart’s second and third string teams how are you going to win anything once you gain promotion?

So with Kingborough & South Hobart ‘relegated’ to Div.2 (sometime between 2008-2010) what happens if one of the clubs win the Div.2 competition? I don’t suppose we’ll be eligible for promotion even though we’ve legtimately won the league.

  10. i love the attitude of beachside. they never won anything for many years and they carry on like there the only team to have a few decent kids that can kicka ball about. they remind me of dale itchins team he had a few years ago at uni. most could kick a ball and knew there way around a ground but horribly arrogent and amounted to very little. and where are they now? i think corey smith might be the only player from that team to still be playing at the top end of competition. wake up to yourselves beachside and learn a little bit of modesty.

  11. Blackjack,

I have sighted a copy of the ‘response to competition review’
    This is what it says…..

    Recommendations
    1. That FFT continues the current system.
    2. That in lieu of the current under 19 league an optional under 18 league be introduced open to all affiliated Clubs.
    3. The number of teams in Premier and Premier Reserves remain at ten.
    4. That FFT institute steps to increase the number of non Premier Clubs in Division 1.
    5. That an immediate embargo be placed on the admission of fresh Premier Club teams into Division 1.

  12. I find the chage of direction concerning the numbers in the Premier League hard to beleive .

The paper circulated by the CEO of FFT states the Board’d preferred option is 8.

Before going any further go to the FFT website and read the document.

  14. Young talent at beaechside.. no where else just beachside.. look out for beachside.. i can still recall them loosing the summercup and still boasting that they are the best side…. but with kingborough and south out they must be happy that will make the competition so much harder for them . but i would like to know where do the 50-60 players that play div1 and Div1 res for south and kingborough go??
good way to stop people from playong soccer… but altleast FFT are trying something..

  15. Geeeeee wont div 1 be an exciting league this year with those teams kicked out…..NOT!! Div2 will be of much more interest to the everyday punter….!! Seriously, there are so many people out there with short sighted attitude that it is insane…!! Another step backwards for football in Tassie. Teams will now get promoted from Div one will go back down quicker than you can say bob’s your uncle… The standard of opponents in div 1 has now dropped, DRAMATICALLY (apologies to other teams in div1)…..!!! Teams individual ego’s have now hurt div one it will turn into a terrible competition… Shame. Well done FFT another tip top decision….

  16. the paper released by you states that the current structure of the premier league remains the same….

  17. Can everyone please keep a lid on their emotions over this issue. We have had no legitimate or authorised news so should therefore NOT jump to any conclusion. I could say with reasonable certainty that any plan to remove SPL clubs from Div.1 wont happen this year simply for the reason that SPL clubs have already registered players, entered teams, rosters been drawn up, etc. So just relax boys.

Canweunited, I haven’t released ANY paper. I’m not authorised to do anything of the kind. From my understanding the ‘response to competition review’ that you refer to was a paper written by Brian Roberts and is a personal view on the original discussion paper (available on the FFT website) from FFT.

If people continue to get heated over this topic I will be forced to suspend further discussion until we have something CONFIRMED.

DID ANYONE ACTUALLY GO TO THE AGM?? If you did, can you please confirm the discussion on this topic and the it’s outcome. I am happy if people drop me a ‘anonymous’ e-mail rather put up a post.

  18. Well, I was at the AGM and no decisions of any sort were made on this matter. Clubs have been asked to submit their views by the end of April.
