All pre & post match comments here…keep it reasonable and sensible!!
4-2… Knights need to learn how to lose gracefully before they can get respect from anyone. I think they should employ a team psychiatrist to control the anger coming from certain players. Whats up with wanting to fight men over twice their age???
By the way, where did you get your hair done, jono? I wish i could look so pretty.
Comment by forward — March 31, 2007 @ 12:07 am
Sprinklers coming on 25 minutes in robbed Knights of their momentum. This, followed by BP gifting Clarence their second goal, still didnt take Knights out of the match - but their inability to take the many many cances they created certainly did. Well done Clarence for continuing to attack regardless of the gaps left at the back.
Comment by sj — March 31, 2007 @ 12:34 am
I heard about the flash floods in Glenorchy last night. Supposedly created by the tears of joy from one A.Brown & Co.
Well done Clarence.
Knights, I know this is only one match but I’d reckon there would be a few generous serves of humble pie coming your way lads. If I were you, I’d just eat it quietly and regroup for next week. As they say, “Pride come before a fall” and you must expect this type of reaction when you have players getting around sprouting ‘invinsible’ labels.
Comment by Lionheart — March 31, 2007 @ 7:44 am
Can the knights still use the excuse that they had so many players out for the game against clarence???
Now that we are into the league games what are the excuses they can use.
LOL!!!
Good job clarence
Comment by corky — March 31, 2007 @ 11:52 am
Knights were missing sanders lol. Lionheart who do you think will be the team to watch this year
Comment by Borat — March 31, 2007 @ 1:08 pm
That bloke was mouthing at Janko from the sidelines according to various sources, and all janko was asking was for him to say it to his face. And the fella denied saying anything if i’m correct? Don’t think there is much wrong with that, all pretty clear cut.
Your jibe at Ladic about his hair, mate grow up a bit aye, bit jealous?
Corky, I don’t believe anyone is making any excuses. The boys were outplayed. Good game to watch though.
Corey Smith’s shot that hit the crossbar and was over the line by about a metre before being recovered - really could of turned the game.
Well done to Clarence, you guys were the better team. I liked your style of play. The senior squad will need to pick up it’s game for the next match against you lot, top form.
Congrats, and good on the few of you that accepted Knights’ invitation to come back to the club for a beer afterwards, that’s what sportsmanship is all about.
Cheers

In all seriousness, the players on the park have to remain above jibes from the sidelines. In my coaching days I’d threaten to drop (or bench) any of my players who reacted to something that was said from the sideline. There really is no need and if the opposition know they can get under a player’s skin with verbal slanging it will become a team tactic…and a legitimate one too I might add.
Clarence will need to tread fairly carefully, they played a wide open style and a more composed team on the day will tear them apart. Good luck to Clarence though ‘Obi One’ will be a little chuffed with himself this morning and you need to enjoy those little victories.
Comment by Blackjack — March 31, 2007 @ 1:46 pm
Yeah, it will definately be interesting to see who wins out of these two teams in the next clash between them.

I commend you all to read Walter’s report from the Clarence/Knights match. It is priceless!! and of course you can leave comments on Walter’s column on this blog.
Well done Walter top stuff.

Walter’s comment is pure gold. FFT must advertise too, he’s right. There is a problem when only 75 (100 if you count the players…lol) people turn up.

Not a good day for Metro . All credit to their First xi they never stopped trying and if the score had gone to 1-1 it may have been a different story . They lack two players . The team is enthusiastic and committed unfortunately those attributes don’t win games .
Comment by Anon — March 31, 2007 @ 8:25 pm
The reason you get only 75 people to friday night games is that it always involves Knights and Zebras… People get sick of watching the same teams if they support other clubs…
Comment by Canweunited — March 31, 2007 @ 8:49 pm
Forward….
I hope your hair is better than jono’s as he is definately a better player than any of the clarence players and up there with the best in the state.
Knights played well but the goals would not go in, but hey that soccer.
well done clarence but all the knights are focussing on is the next game as it is a long season and much to play for…
Forward, where did you get your hair cut from?
If only you had a

i wouldnt read to much on 1 result in the seaon, but yes knights are not looking the goods at the moment and they did have a full strength squad and im pretty sure borat was joking when he said they were missing sanders in an earlier post as he has been gone a long time now, good honest report by walter nice to read would like to see alot more of it as it is the truth 100 percent
Comment by kermit the frog — March 31, 2007 @ 9:55 pm
Well done Olympic for putting together a good passing game. Eagels had their chances, but the Olyimpic boys had it in the bag today in both games. Bullis with a hat trick, I think he looked taller after the game.

Bit of a harsh welcome to Taroona for their 1st Premier game.

I hope the Taroona boys dont get discouraged here. Just a bit of nerves energy comming through on the first game, so dont stress.

For those people who weren’t at the knights game, two mistakes by knights player cost them. They could have been 3-0 up within 10 mins! two errors that cost you in football. doesn’t mean they were outplayed. Everybody jump on while you can…. (roll of the eyes) Then the spinklers came on, they lost all their momentum and Clarence got them on the break, that changed the game. knights hit the bar 5 times and scored clearly once by corey, that everybody saw including clarence because they stopped! but the ref missed it. Just wait till a few more games hey till you jump on board. They also lost graceefully as well, a personal comment toward a knights player was the only upsetting bit at the end. Didn’t mean that they were sore loser’s, the Clarence guys should know better. I was in the stand and heard it from up there.
Comment by Jump on board... — April 2, 2007 @ 9:32 am
I did not see the game on Friday night, but i am curious why Eammon Kelly leaves a very capable defender in Mathew Brown on the bench and is not used and the knights end up conceding 4 goals and loses?!?
Comment by Gregory — April 2, 2007 @ 9:59 am
Had the pleasure of visiting Metro Soccer Club on Saturday to watch Metro play South Hobart. The people of Metro should be congratulated on providing such a professional and well organised sporting event.
The crowd was substantially higher than the “75″ that attended Friday nights game, 150+. Why you might ask? Well, providing an outdoor food/refreshment van for spectators to utilise and organising over twenty junior Metro children to provide a guard of honour for Metro’s Senior Squad to enter the playing field through, certainly helped. Being a regular visitor to Metro, I know the spectator numbers are higher than most other clubs in the league.
Metro & the Glenorchy City Council should also be congratulated on the progress of the playing surface made at Nth Chigwell, over the last few years. With a bit of patience this ground will be one of the best grounds in the state.
The players of the Metro Senior squad didn’t do the club and harm either, playing a very determined brand of Soccer against a formidable outfit in South Hobart.
I know where my children will be playing soccer next year.
To the people of Metro, you are certainly moving in the right direction, well done.

gregory…… eamonn would definately play browny if fit but browny is carrying injury at the moment as is lincoln. We have our players back but pretty clear we have a few still underdone but that will come!!! Its only the first round and we need to pick up but with a little luck we should have won still friday!! Last few seasons the luck has gone our way and friday it didn’t so just have to work that little bit harder!! scoreline didn’t reflect the game but well done to clarence on taking their chances!!! also the young fella on the left has a big career ahead of him!!! great delivery from wide all night against us friday and he was clarence’s best!!! well done harro in his first game back with us….. missed a few but was always presenting and was obviously doing something right to get into those positions….. it will come soon!!! chalky bit ambitious to say mine was over by a metre but i think it deserved a goal…… lol
Comment by corey smith — April 2, 2007 @ 11:21 am
well done to andrew brown with his team tactics on friday night and congratulations to clarence football club on their first ever senior win over the knights in the history of the club.
good luck with the rest of the season
Comment by 6 U L D V 8 — April 2, 2007 @ 1:33 pm
Jump on board posts that the “knights hit the bar 5 times” and “They could have been 3-0 up within 10 mins”. Thats just all if’s and but’s mate; the score is all that matters at the end of the day.
And to say that 2 mistakes cost knights the game, correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t clarence score 4 goals.
What’s the difference between hitting the bar 5 times and hitting a shot that goes as wide as the corner flag? There’s no difference, both result in no goal being scored.
Comment by tas_smurf — April 2, 2007 @ 6:52 pm
Yer i totally argee with “tas_smurf” on that 1 glenorcy could have dominated the game but its the score at full time which counts

Well done to the Kingborough Div 1 Women on Sunday which gave a debut to one of their Youth Team starlets who then proceeded to bag a hat-trick against Metro after coming on with 30 minutes to go.
Comment by p_weller — April 2, 2007 @ 10:06 pm
Forward, good way to kick off the forum. I’ve been away from a computer for a while and your welcome back is appreciated. I don’t think it is knights who are the only ungracious losers at times. All teams don’t respond well to losing under some situations. Last season I saw unsatisfied Metro and Clarence Teams. And they had reason to be unsatisfied due to refereeing decision turning the game and unlucky situations. I don’t think we should start labelling people sore losers yet, after 1 game! As for the hair comment… leave your Knights bashing at the door.
I am enjoying people’s accounts of the game coupled with Walters blogs. Does help with trying to follow the game 10,000miles away. I see a trend forming Knights defenders and Knights bashers.
How did Zebras look? Fair enough they played Taroona but 5 - zip looks like a decent performance especially after struggling last season? and 3 - nil to South seemed generous from what i’ve heard? Can we get some discussion on these other teams…;)
Comment by 1878 — April 2, 2007 @ 11:54 pm
You clearly must have not read the jump on board comment because that’s exactly what you are doing by saying what you’ve said. Just jump on the bandwaggon and see who’s where at the end of the season. Unless you play for 2 teams at the moment who are in with a shot for the title bar knights come season end, i’d reserve your comments and let the football do the talking… So like i said… ALL ABORD! lol
Comment by Jump on board... — April 3, 2007 @ 9:22 am
Jump on board, we’re one game into the season…EVERYONE is in with a shot at the title even those teams that copped a footballing lesson in the first match…like Knights!!! LOL
Comment by Blackjack — April 3, 2007 @ 9:47 am
haha blackjack that is a rubbish call mate! i agree with everyone that has said hitting the bar means nothing but at the end of the day it shows that we created chances and if u saw the game then i think u would agree we only need a little bit of a tweak and a bit more motivation back and we will be ok!! only first game!! mind u pretty disappointing!! didn’t see zebra game but 5 goals is impressive against any team really!! look forward to zebras knights derbys being competitive once again although we might have to pull our fingers out at this stage to keep up….. lol anyway to all you knockers i just want to say well done on hiding behind ur alias’ and not putting ur real name and talk to u come the end of the season hey!!
Comment by corey smith — April 3, 2007 @ 11:56 am
why is all the talk about the knights, you would have to be pretty stupid to right off the knights after one game. Come on people in 2000 we lost the first game of the season to olympic 1- 0 and then went on to win the title by 15 points, so i think we should give credit to clarence and uni which had great results on the weekend and talk about that rather then stick it up the knights,It gets boring after a while!!
Comment by 6 U L D V 8 — April 3, 2007 @ 12:04 pm
Corey, no one is ‘hiding’ behind an alias. The fact they can post as who they want (just as you have done on a couple of ocassions) is their perogative. People can ‘choose’ how they post. Some people feel intimidated by people such as yourself and other ‘forceful’ personalities. Even some of your team mates have posted with under an alias.
As for the knockers, when you have your team mates coming on here just before kick off last Friday night saying “Clarence are going to get smashed”, “…three in a row and nothing anyone can do about it”, I would suggest you have set yourselves up to have you faces rubbed in it. If you don’t want the knockers ‘rubbing it in’ then don’t post in a boastful fashion. Play with fire, you can expect to get burnt!!
Comment by Blackjack — April 3, 2007 @ 12:53 pm
I find it amazing that there is so much animosity shown towards the Knights, if I was one of them I would probably take it on board, why is that so? We got a fair flogging from Uni and all credit to them, but no one has mentioned us in the same tone as the Knights, so there must be a vast difference in club culture or mentality or something? Very early in the season to start saying that things are over or a team is gone, but we have to improve dramatically if we are going to compete with better teams than Uni, mind you 3 penalties to be given away is ridiculous against any team. No team is that good to win if they do that. As I have said all along an even competition with a top 4 that push each other all year is the thing that will make our competition stronger and I look forward to getting into it after our bloody break! rostering is absurd.

The reason that everyine want’s to see the knights fail, and love to bag them, is because of the recent double in the premiership, plus many other trophy’s they’ve got over the past two years. make’s it easy to bag them put when they fail.
Comment by call us two time... — April 4, 2007 @ 9:34 am
What do people think of the other opening round games?? I was at the Olympia White Eagles game and thought the standard was reasonable for round 1.. The result doesn’t show the tempo of the game however, and some nice finishes by both teams young guns…. The agro in Eagles let them down I think.. After a 5-0 demolision by Zebras in the Summer Cup Final might have been hard for the boys to pick themselves up after going 3-1 down at the half…
Comment by youwanadowhat — April 4, 2007 @ 10:34 am
What about that newcomer to Olympia from Adelaide? Anyone see his game? Didn’t think there was much to it, wasn’t threatening or the such during his clash with Eagles… But sweet left foot.
Comment by youwanadowhat — April 4, 2007 @ 10:35 am
Good to see a few upsets in the first round of matches with Uni and Clarence in particular starting off the season well. Seems to be a fair bit of chirp on here regarding Knights’ performance we are only one game in so a long way to go. I personally think the League is pretty open this year which is great for Football in Tassie.
Comment by Observer — April 4, 2007 @ 10:48 am
i think you will find charlie it is a tall poppy thing! Agree with observer in that it is good for the comp if a few upsets happen here ad there and the comp is even! also want to add that it is disappointing that the person who runs the site blackjack seems to be as big a knights basher as any…… keep up the good work on the rest of the site though as it will motivate our boys a bit during the year i would think!
Comment by corey smith — April 4, 2007 @ 11:47 am

just an interesting stat that all the away teams won on the weekend!!
Comment by 6 U L D V 8 — April 4, 2007 @ 3:09 pm
Lionheart, I was not saying anyone should take on board my comments, I am but a simpleton of this great game, no one, especially the “tall poppies” should take my advice to heart. We are all trying to be tall poppies are we not? I think the answer is yes, but the soil preparation is what makes some taller than others. I enjoy gardening and actually had a decent bag of manure delivered the other day, from whence it came i do not know…
Comment by charlie white — April 4, 2007 @ 4:20 pm
subtle. Mr Chales White (aka Don Burke), VERY subtle!! Though you do underestimate yourself young man. A simpleton you are not, although granted, the game is well populated with such persons.
*whispers* after a little speach like that I believe I can enlighten you as to whence that bag of manure did come…and if it’s true I would expect the Kingborough team to grow very strong and tall this season!!! LOL
Comment by Lionheart — April 4, 2007 @ 4:48 pm
Corey, you misuderstand me. I am a great admirer of the Knights and their standard of play. Watching them at times can be very rewarding and most enjoyable.
I am not an admirer of some of the Knights players who wish to put s**t on some individuals (and teams) and then when these individuals react, the Knights players want to cry ‘Knights bashers’. You want to play with fire, you can only expect to get your fingers burnt. Don’t come crying to me because you got singed.
Now taking this one step further, there are other people in other teams who I see in the same light. Each club has it’s boastful individuals - Knights, South Hobart, Kingborough, Olympic, Eagles, I’m sure you’d find at least one in each club. So can you drop the Knights bashing label please. It’s an individual thing NOT a club thing. So as they say in the movies, “build a bridge and get over it!!”
Comment by Blackjack — April 4, 2007 @ 5:13 pm
Lionheart, im sorry if i seem blunt here because I am, lol.. but you and Kingborough… IS there something we should know??? LOL. Perhaps a little secret someone keeping in their closet?? I thoroughly enjoy this blog, gives all a chance to say a piece, and pick up on whats what across the clubs. But lionheart giving a one eyed opinion, which we already know is going to be about, is really not worth the effort.. from memory KLUSC happened to get smashed down the park over this weekend, by what can be only described as a ordinary University side!
Comment by youwanadowhat — April 4, 2007 @ 5:41 pm
Wanting Lionheart to be less than one eyed, well you might as well try and hold back the tide. At least you know where you stand with him though. Maybe we should try a new name for him…Cyclops!!
Comment by Blackjack — April 4, 2007 @ 6:02 pm
Is there something you should know wanadowhat?? I would be confident in saying there would be a lot you should know, but you should have paid greater attention at school shouldn’t you?? LOL
There’s no other secret. I wear Blue & Black every chance I get and make no apologies for that.
I’ll be the first to admit, we got our butts whipped last Sunday…and they deserved to be whipped to. We were awful. No excuses. Your comment is a bit unfair on Uni though, they’ll win more than they loose.
But being a one eyed KLUSC supporter I know that we can only go upward & I look forward to that. Bring on next weekend.
I’m not being “boastful” blackjack just confident!!
cyclops indeed?? LOL
