Where do my rego fees go?
This landed on my desk the other day and I have often hear players berating club officials about having to pay rego fees that are considered exorbitant. So here for your consideration is a break down of how you fees are paid to FFT.
Adult Male over 18
Insurance $8 , National Reg Fee $12.00 ,
FFT Admin Fee $ 70.00, Team Nomination Fee $120. Total $210.
Under 17 to 19
Insurance $8 , National Reg Fee $5.60 ,
FFT Admin Fee $ 61.40, Team Nomination Fee $120. Total $195
Senior Women over 18
Insurance $8 , National Reg Fee $12.00 FFT
Admin Fee $ 70.00 Team Nomination Fee $65. Total $155
Women under 17/18
Insurance $8 , National Reg Fee $5.60 FFT
Admin Fee $ 61.40 Team Nomination Fee $65. Total $140.
Juniors under 13 to 16
Insurance $8 , National Reg Fee $5.60
FFT Admin Fee $ 11.40 Team Nomination Fee $40.00 Total $65.
would like to point out that Clarence United junior fees are somewhere in the vicinity of 115-130 this year.
65 goes to the above places…but what the hell is going on with the other 50-65 bucks? If there’s a good reason, so be it, but does this seem fair? maybe people are being ripped off?

Dont follow your argument . The balance would go in refs fees, ground rent , lights, wear and tear on equipment not to mention baby sitting fees.

Nice to see that with equality of the sexes, adult women still pay less than a 17 yr old male.
Also just a query. What would the fee be for a 16 yr old playing for an adult team?
Going from the above list, my kid as a 16 yr old should pay $65, but I’ve already stumped up $180 pre season as his rego.

Very good point tas_smurf…where IS the equality? Doesn’t seem fair there. 180 dollars for a 16year old doesn’t seem right, where does the balance go?
Maybe the ’shonky’ clubs might like to explain?
So, anon, how much do the seniors pay? does this mean that a senior male pays upwards of $300 for rego? as this is the balance of the junior fee added to the male senior fee.
Also, one would think that wear and tear, as well as ground hire, would be greater for the adult teams?

My issue would be, if a players only 16, then does he still pay the fee for someone in his own age group, even if he’s playing in an older age group.
If he should be charged as a 16 yr old, then it would appear that either (a) the club in question don’t understand what rego should be charged or (b) the young guys are subsidising part of the rego for the adult players. If its part (b), this would in essence mean that as a parent I’m paying for my kid to play football and also paying towards a working man’s weekend fun.
I’ll certainly not be amused if it turns out that I’m handing over my hard earned cash to support someone (other than my own kid) in their funtime.
Is their a set schedule of rego fee’s in Tas, or is it up to individual club’s to charge whatever they feel they can get away with.
Is their anyone who can shed some insight on this topic.

No set schedule of fees exists. Each club sets their annual membership fees (inclusive of any fees payable to FFT). Some clubs set them by the age of the player whilst others set them by the costs associated with the team that the player is playing in. SO it is possible that a 16y/o could be playing Premier League and paying more than a 16y/o playing Under17’s. The level of fees within a particular club will depend on many factors including sponsorship available to offset costs - fees paid to coaches, sports trainers, ground hire for training, ground hire for matches, electricity for lights, ground marking, firstaid kits, strips (purchase and cleaning), training balls and match balls, training bibs, poles, hurdles, cones, purchase and maintenance of technical area benches and shelters, nets, corner poles and flags, and the list goes on. Some clubs wont have all of these costs for all of their teams - and different clubs have different policies as to where each cost should be levied.

SJ Nice to read an intelligent rather than an emotive response.

Well Done SJ. Being involved in a big club with so many players ( many of them youth players playing senior football) it is difficult. KLUSC make youth players pay youth rego no matter what level they play. But if you do not have that luxury then you play rego to the level that you play not your age. The costs for a senior team is far greater than the rego that the clubs get in from the players. The hardest done players are senior men who play lower leagues and regularly get no ref or linespeople. They are the ones who support other teams, not by choice but unfortunately by circumstance.

I may be wrong but i thought that as part of the new rules and regulations that FFA set the state body FFT has to sign off on a club fees in their jurisdiction , this is to stop clubs overcharging , so that “shonky” fees set by clubs are not allowed ans a more realistic fee is set .

Billy - my understanding is that clubs can charge whatever they like PROVIDING they disclose the make up of the fees.

SJ, in speaking to FFA , it has to be approved by FFT , they can demand clubs to to justify the fees set , if they so desire .
Comment by Billy Jones — April 2, 2007 @ 4:54 pm
Billy are you sure that FFA are talking about membership fees inclusive of regn & insurance fees and not just regn and insurance?
Comment by sj — April 2, 2007 @ 7:13 pm
Depends on what you get for your $ really? If you are training and playing at really good venues, you’re playing in nice new strips and tracksuits, the club is providing social events etc you shouldnt mind paying the money. As an adult male (a student) $210 seems like a bargain. When you put it into perspective you can’t even have 2 pints a weekend for the whole season for that amount.
Look at Hockey Rego’s. A hockey player couldnt even pick his nose at the hockey send for a 210 bucks…

SJ it is my understanding that a full breakdown of charges for rego can be requested , in fact it even maybe on the club registration form .
It has been put in place to stop non existant fees being charged by clubs and have requested that State bodies police ..
Still players make decisions who they sign for not state bodies , if the fees printed by Blackjack are correct , then players have the avenue to ask clubs for a breakdown of fees.
Having said that i think that in todays world 200-300 per year based on a 40 week training playing period - hopefully 20 games plus equates 5-6 dollars a week .As my old coach would say pie and a coke at KGV .

can i say that as a committe member for a senior club for a long time and being the registration officer i often found myself having to justify to senior players who thought they were to good to pay us and that we should be paying them to play for us.
In actual fact when you see what most clubs are charging then we are not even covering the basic costs to field our players
( stips, shorts, socks, ground hire, ref fees this list goes on and on are all covered by the CLUB) and we rely solely on sponsorship and fundraising all season to keep afloat.
I know my club charged players at thier age and not at where they are playing so if you are 16 and play seniors you only pay rego at the u16 rate.
I have a daughter inlaw that plays hockey she has to pay $350,buy her strip from the club her stick etc so all you people out there winging about how expensive the rego fees are to play soccer then i think you should all have a look at other sports fees and I think you will find that to play the world game here in tassie is extremely well priced so stop moaning and pay your bloody fees or go home and sit in front on the tv and get fat.
