Perhaps the FFT should be going north of Oatlands rather than tinker around with the Southern Comps which work.

Kermit give your self an upper cut! we dont go bashing your comp for the scores that Hobart united put in last year!
Launceston are in for a tough year but that doesn’t make our comp a joke! after all Somerset did win the state title last year, and I believe we have had our fair share of state titles and State wide cups here in the north of late!
Back on the Launceston issue, they will rebuild im sure, but just cause they got smashed this week doesnt mean we should get rid of em to add some respect to the comp. God forbid any of your games blow out like that and have a goal scoreing field day.
There will be a tight comp here in the North dont worry about that.

Having read the scores maybe a couple of other coaches will join the oncesacked coaches club .. lol

Interesting opening round. Aside from Ulverstone and Launy Utd, who seem to be quite a bit off the pace, this year’s northern league looks like it will be very open and entertaining. Realistically, any side out of Somerset, Devonport, Burnie, Rangers, River and City (despite their 4-0 loss this week) could end the 2007 season as premiers.
A brief response to Kermit labelling the competition a joke: While sides conceding 8 and 10 goals is never a good look, if you are going to base your opinion on the strength of a league on how many goals the bottom sides are conceding, some quick calculations show that in 2006 the bottom two sides in the northern league, Launy Utd and Ulverstone, conceded 4.1 and 2.4 goals per game respectively. This compares with Hobart Utd and Metro in the southern league who conceded 4.6 and 3.1 goals respectively on average per game. Take from this what you want.

I like this Bob fellow. And kermit, well what ever I said about him would be deemed offensive by Black Jack so I will be silent
Comment by Captain Australia — April 2, 2007 @ 4:23 pm
I like real Bob. While the other Bob (new Bob) struggled to get his e-mail address. If you asked him to change his name he’d have a brain meltdown!! LOL
I can make everyone register but I can only imagine the moans or woah-betide-me’s I’d get then. I think you’re just going to have to live with it Bob…ahh, Real Bob!!

…and I can’t tell you how proud I am of you CA. In fact I feel almost fatherly toward you!!!
Comment by Blackjack — April 2, 2007 @ 6:21 pm
Please Captain Australia, 3 out of the 4 games played were blowouts. Even 4 nil is a fairly convincing scoreline. Perhaps this is bad week for fixtures but honestly it is evident that there is a huge gap in the calibre and ability of clubs. Kermit I believe has a point, but it would be good if he could elaborate on it.

Gents, this is another of those ‘mine’s bigger than yours’ arguements. No one is going to win it and someone will call someone a nasty name. No one from the south saw the games up north so they are speaking from a basis of ignorance. We have played ONE match and all of a sudden (some) people are writing off the Northern comp as a joke. Do I need to remind people the current State Champions are the Somerset Sharks, a team that plays in the Northern comp. At THIS stage of the 2007 season writing anything or anybody off is just sour grapes.
The northern comp will have it’s team of strugglers just as the south does. Knights, Clarence, Kingborough all had BIG win over Hobart United last year but no one wrote off the Southern comp.
We’ll wait a couple of weeks to see what unfolds before we’ll let this discussion go any further. Return to your corners gents and put your weapons away.

Sorry original Bob, didn’t realise I was encroaching on your naming rights. From now on I shall hereby be known as BB!!
Comment by BB (the man formerly known as Bob) — April 3, 2007 @ 11:33 am
fair comment BJ.
I would point out that the team that was beaten 4-0 would be widely regarded as one of the most successful clubs in at least the North of the state in Launceston City! per haps someone just had a good day infront of goals
Comment by Captain Australia — April 3, 2007 @ 12:17 pm
finally now i can go sleepys;)
Comment by the real bob — April 3, 2007 @ 5:22 pm
Launceston have the youngest team in the competition and they have a lack of experience. In a few years they will find their feet.
Comment by North — April 3, 2007 @ 5:37 pm
Funny comment “Launceston have the youngest team” where do you get that stat from?
Comment by hugo — April 4, 2007 @ 9:28 am
I agree with Hugo on this! Launceston may have the most in expirenanced side but I doubt the youngest!
Comment by Captain Australia — April 4, 2007 @ 1:01 pm
From what i have heard the average age of the team is about 20 years of age. I may be wrong though.
Comment by North — April 4, 2007 @ 3:14 pm
goodluck to the northern comp! it is tasmanian soccer not hobart soccer!!! maybe if fft gave the north a bit more backing things would be different but getting anything out of those guys is like getting blood from a stone!! the talent pool in the north is good at junior level and in rep squads growing up the north always had good players in our state sides!! also somerset beat us in the state final last year on penalties but i would have to say they thoroughly deserved to win and we were probably lucky in the end to get to penalties….. how is croza going at burnie?? i see he scored??
Comment by corey smith — April 5, 2007 @ 2:42 pm
Croza has fitted in well at Burnie, I don’t think we have seen the best of him yet but every now and then he completely bewilders evrybody around him with some amazing skills. The more he plays with us the better he is getting, he is a player that has the potential to win games for us. We are lucky to have quite a few in that category at the moment.
Comment by hugo — April 6, 2007 @ 10:44 am
Corey — what “bit more backing” would you like FFT to give the northern comp?
Comment by sj — April 6, 2007 @ 5:57 pm
i don’t think anyone has seen the best out of croza for a long time. He was very ordinary at knights and didn’t do much at uni in my opinion. It’d be good to see if Burnie does well out of him. If they do he is a very quality player.
