Football on the airwaves

Filed under: Uncategorized — Blackjack @ 1:16 am

It seems that with a bit of pushing and prodding things are starting to pick up pace in terms of promoting the game here in Hobart.

A number of radio stations here are running previews, reviews and football discussions, and I am lead to believe there are more good things in the offering.

Our old friend David Woods continues with his broadcast each and every Saturday morning on Ultra FM - 106.5FM. Woodsy kicks off at 8.30am.

The newest promotional and information broadcast comes from our old mate Walter Pless who has been approached by HOFM - 101.7FM Walter can be heard at News Hour (each Friday on hour from 8am) with Mel Bush as part of her regular sports bulletin. Walter gives a brief run down of the top SPL games for that weekend. He had his first run last Friday and to hear his dulcet tones was like music to the sole.

We will have to tune into Walter on Monday to hear his review of the weekend games.

We wait with baited breath to hear of further developments in the promotion of our game and Blackjack has been informed there are a number of other things happening.

I think if we should congratulate ALL parties that have made these things happen. Don’t forget to give these FM stations a ring and congratulate them on bring the world’s greatest game to the masses in Hobart.

  1. I think I might have predicted the HOFM development?
Talking of developments - showgrounds was ordinary after recent concert, and development squad trainings had to be cancelled. BUT this hasnt daunted FFT’s push to develop showgrounds - expect more news within next couple of weeks - maybe.

  3. I hope by develop that means actually have some soil and grass there somewhre - that’d be a good start. Any development that didn’t dig the whole area up would be pointless. They could also try and make the grounds a reasonable size also, appropriate for nothing more than junior games, not social leagues and above that play on it. Development squads would only pick up bad habits on there also.

Why don’t they use Wentworth Park more for these games? There never seems to be more than 1-2 games on at a time whenever I play there now. There used to always be at least 3 at the one time a few years back.

  4. Let’s stick to the topic of discussion folks, this is not a topic on the development of grounds it’s about promoting our game on the airwaves. ‘Plethora of football notions‘ might be a better discussion venue for ground development.

good to see people getting off their proverbials and doing something for the game.

  9. Did any of you listen to ABC this morning 21/4/07 .
Messrs Wisby and Newlinds interviewed Tony Chaffey of Central region fame . Good to listen to Tony knew his stuff .
This was followed by an interview with Martin Shaw . He was articulate and sold the product well .
At the conclusion Peter Newlinds asked listeners , thats right asked listeners to ring in with their soccer experiences that morning when the Central season started .
    I rang did you?
Martin was in Launceston to assist in the opening of the NTJSA season he also spoke of the TIS course for up and coming young players .
