Stefano Lufi of Mr Video is the man who filmed all of Hobart Olympic's games during the past two seasons.

Stan Draper is a man who transfered film and viedeo on to DVDs. He transferred all my 8mm home movies from 1961 to about 1980 onto DVD and video, but I think he may have retired now. I had to coax him out of 'retirement' last year to do that for me. It's not cheap, either. I have footage of Metro v Croatia and Olympia v Juventus from the late 60s or early 70s, as well as Clarence v Malaysian Tigers from the 60s. I also have some footage of Tasmania v Sunderland from about 1976. All the footage I have totals barely ten minutes.

There are certainly in the Olympic camp a lot of the older gents who can recall the games, who played, the scores as far back as 1958. I spoke to them yesterday, and once they start talking its hard to get away. Not sure of the guy who does the filming there Blackjack, but will find out. As far as the transfers to files goes there are a number of companies here in Hobart which can handle this with ease. I will also speak to Walter at the next game to see what he can offer regarding some media help. Hope the younger boys will enjoy looking at the earlier years as well.

We need to find a kind person who can transfer video and/or film (in it's various formats) to DVD. Who is the guy who is doing all the film work for Olympic? His footage was used at the last Vic Tutuing.

You know what we do need gents?? A HERITAGE committee. Set up purely to search, discover, preserve & maintain the history and heritage of our game here in Tasmania.

The ideal sort of people would be; Keith and/or Brian Roberts (historians), Chris Hudson (historian/author), Walter Pless (media), FFT rep (board or office), a club member or three and a technical person (multi-media expertise).

Thoughts??

Boots, I would be honoured to put up some of the pics from days past. It would be brilliant to put up these pics in match sequence with corresponding discussion of the match, season, individual players, club characters, etc. This in itself will aid in formulating some of the history of the game here in Tassie.

I don't want the Northern guys to feel left out of this either...if ANYONE has film footage (commecial or private) we would love to be able to copy, scan, burn to DVD etc. Drop me an e-mail or post here.

I am developing a picture of creating a DVD with some footage, interviews with some of the retired players, personalities, etc.

Big job...

Well today I put the older folk on notice. We have a large amount of photos coming and with a bit of luck some footage. The final of a cup match reached 2500 in 1960 (maybe it looked like 4000 after celebrations). The records are there and once I've been handed the pixs we will scan them to a file and try to post them on here if its ok with Blackjack.

Just a comment on the crowds at South Hobart. Of course 3 (Premier) games were played one after the other so a lot of people came (and went) during the course of the day. I did have some records on crowds (gone during a clean up) but from recollection 500-1000 would be nearer the mark for attendances, a bit more for finals. You would have trouble fitting 4000 in the ground?

Knights tried to get footage from the ABC of its 1963 Ampol Cup win to show at the recent 50th anniversary dinner but had no luck. Apparently the ABC do have footage from this era but were unable to retrieve it at the time they were asked. It would be worth following up, the crowds were huge back in those days.

Blackjack
There is about to be some discussion between FFT officials and some club officials + media professionals regarding a possible weekly show on a prominent commercial station and some coverage on the premier league show on Pay TV channel Aurora (the one that showed sanders score the winner vs South Melbourne)
Will keep you posted once more developments come to hand.
