Rumour Mongering
Kelly parts company with Glenorchy Knights -It seems the rumour that Eamonn Kelly is no longer senior coach at Glenorchy Knights has been confirmed by various sources. Blackjack has been informed that Eamonn’s departure is not because of Knight’s only winning one match from the first three games of the season but more a case of difference in opinions on how the senior team should interact and assist other teams at the club.
In other news, Jayden Wiggins is understood to have trained with DOSA on Monday night.
You can all put your other gossip on here too!! Damn women’s weekly & Daily Soap subscribers!!!
Warning: If I detect any person who is posting as any player, coach, trainer or personality in Tasmanian football who isn’t in fact that person, then they’re going to find themselves with a LIFETIME BAN from this blog. I don’t care if the person is trying to have a joke or just trying to be funny. The ban will stand. There are just too many possibilities that could go wrong and cause offense or damage a persons reputation to tolerate such behavior. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
No, Eamonn is not the Coach of the Glenorchy Knights at present. He tendered his Resignation the other day.
Comment by chalky — April 24, 2007 @ 3:14 pm
I guess when Knights have said in the past “we’re all best of mates and play for each other, not money” (or words to that effect) that didn’t include the coach?
Comment by IceMan — April 24, 2007 @ 3:46 pm
The Eamonn situation is not clear at the moment so i wouldn’t get too far ahead of yourselves guys. Iceman yes that does include the coach and whatever happens Eamonn is still one of the squad that got us to those 2 titles! I haven’t spoken personally to him but i am sure that if he was to leave the club he would take away many great memories and some great friendships from the group we had the past two years! As for the team itself i can assure you we are all still close on and off the field and i think you will see a bit of pride in that shirt we wear the next few weeks to try and turn our poor start around. It is still ONLY 3 rounds in don’t forget but obviously can’t drop too many more points! As for playing for money………. I am sure the boys would love some but as is the case at most clubs in Hobart mate you have to pay your subs to be able to play!
Comment by corey smith — April 24, 2007 @ 4:39 pm
Look for Ian Parker to be putting his hat in the ring to take over the reins at the Knights. You will see a few “coaches” put their hands up because most don’t have the skills to take over a weaker side and make it strong. The Knights regardless of how they are performing at the moment still have the best team on paper, and are therefore attractive to coach
Comment by Sambo — April 24, 2007 @ 4:44 pm
Eamomn kelly handed in his resignation over the weekend, and at last nights training session we held a team meeting to discuss the situation, pros and the cons but unfortunatly the number’s were not great so we are still at the cross roads to decide the future. One thing to take from this is the club is bigger than one person so we will move on and look forward to this weeks massive challenge of south beware of the wounded knight!!
And before all the goss of new coaches get’s out we will not play under krambo!!
Can’t wait for the rest of the week!!!!!!!!!
And to Jayden hope to see u at training wednesday night

I think you’ll find it said the Knights players are all the best of mates, and yeah they do play for each other out there, your a tad up yourself if you play just for youself. (No comments on this issue please). It’s showed over the that they do. chalky i’m glad you put ‘at present’… The knights will know at the end of the week from what birdys tell me. I’m sure If Eamonn is reading all this, he’d rather his privacy and will let people know when he wants to, and when the club is ready to say Yes or No. It’s rather a large matter, and I’m sure this will be a hot topic, and please keep speculation to a minimum until some sort of truth is out offically.
Cheers

corey, what do you think the difference is this season compared to the last 2 title winning seasons
Comment by kermit the frog — April 24, 2007 @ 6:08 pm
I don’t know why or who gave this picture that all the knights are best of buddies thats crap and ive played for the club 10 years, on the field we all play for each other and we all get along fine but off the field we all have a little friendship groups like most club do, yes we do no how to celebrate as a team maybe that’s where the preception comes from i don’t know.
After this week we will see how strong the club really is?
Comment by 6 U L D V 8 — April 24, 2007 @ 6:29 pm
Kermit that’s easy luck we haven’t had any yet while last year we did it will come with time
Comment by 6 U L D V 8 — April 24, 2007 @ 6:30 pm
6 U L D V 8 yeh luck can be a big factor in games, its only time before knights will unload with alot of goals but will it be to late by then time will tell?
Comment by kermit the frog — April 24, 2007 @ 6:45 pm
yeah i think the difference is luck in some ways! we have played poor in some games last couple of years and won where as so far this year we have played ok i think and not got over the line! I think things are a little stale also and some of the guys are finding it hard to get up and motivated! Sure it will come together soon enough! I have been at many clubs and there is usually very clicky groups in amongst squads but at knights i think everyone gets along very well so i disagree with 6 u l d v 8’s comments…. I know that the core young group do pretty much everything together on and off the field!! maybe that is the problem?
Comment by corey smith — April 24, 2007 @ 7:44 pm
I just hope knights haven’t crucified another good servant to the club. It tends to be a habit with coaches who leave with a bad taste in their mouth. I hope this isn’t the same with Mr. Kelly
Comment by 1878 — April 24, 2007 @ 9:03 pm
corey if eamonn does leave the club who do you think will take over, or who would you like to take over
Comment by kermit the frog — April 24, 2007 @ 9:13 pm
Will be interesting to see how this progresses, heard the same news once last year that Emaonn quit and did not show for a training session or two then came back!. It would be good to hear Eamonn’s comments as the first impression people get is that poor results and poor attitudes from players were the biggest contributing factor to his resignation, however rumours have it that arguements and issues between coaching staff and committee members was the reason. If Eamonn has truley been as vaulable a coach as some of the knights boys claim or post on this blog, they should be doing everything they can to get him back.
Comment by wingman — April 25, 2007 @ 12:12 am
Would people stop making excuses for the clubs inabilities to win games. The scoreline in both losses for the club tends to show more than luck is needed. Also, the game they did win against uni was extremely unconvincing to say the least.
Comment by Carlos — April 25, 2007 @ 12:39 am
Looks like another interesting situation developing, walter seems to be all over it as well I see this morning. Nobody has said it so I will, GREAT JOB over the past two years Mr KELLY. Any manager who can organise and get success out of so many inflated ego’s deserves a medal, maybe they can organise a special spot today for Kelly in the March!!!!
Comment by soccer supporter — April 25, 2007 @ 11:12 am
Eammon wasn’t the best coach in the history of the game! But he controlled and harnessed the difficult and young side he had, played a big part in the admin of the club, emersed himself within the Hobart Croatian Commmunity and let the club evolve from a croatian club to a glenorchy knights club (hence the loss of a few players). Hat off to you mr kelly
Comment by 1878 — April 25, 2007 @ 2:06 pm
I agree, I met Eammon about 15 years ago outside of soccer (During Glorious good old days of summers at Boat Harbour Beach) he is a genuine good guy and I know that if Eammon has quit then he has very good reasons and they have nothing to do with any of us.

Maybe, maybe not - I do play for Knights so I have first hand info of what’s going on. I wouldn’t post something unless I was sure.
If Wiggy wants to go play for DOSA, who lost 4-1 against Nelson United then he should go for it. They need all the help they can get at the moment.

As usual when a team is not perfoming it is easy to blame it on the coach but as a matter of fact it is up to the players and individuals to win games. After all coaches pass the knowledge to the players but when a player rebel againts coach decisions on the field and therefore many times leading to mistakes, mucking up the team plan and loss of games. So over all players contribute to coaches resigning - but every one has freedom of opinion so to all u clubs board dont hang your coach. Support them cause a win or loss he is doing his best and is up each individual to steep up, cause there is always one player who will not agree with a coach decision and that player will weaken the team with constant criticism and not listening to coach instructions, so on that acount listen to your coach cause he knows what he is doing or he will walk out and with good reason.

Interesting to see “prospective” Knights coach George “Krambo” Krambousanos at the Hobart Olympic - Riverside game at KGV today. Was he on a scouting mission in preparation for his new senior position? Is George going to be able to assist Huigi to end his goal drought? Can George speak Croatian? Does he have a Knight’s jacket buried somewhere in his closet? These are the questions that we are all waiting to be answered.

How will Huigi take over if he doesn’t have the madatory FFT coaching qualifications?? Will Huigi want the role??
Don’t be surprised if Krambosanos is appointed as the ‘flag officer’ but in name only…Huigi will take the wheel and steer the necessary course. That will satisfy all parties except…

kermit its not up to me who coaches! To be honest i would be happy with Eamonn staying but doesn’t look like that will happen! Tactically he may not be a great coach but as someone else said he bought our team together as a unit and certainly had us disciplined! End of Two great seasons but at the end of the day maybe a fresh start and some fresh ideas is what is needed?? Certainly not the coaches fault we haven’t performed yet but i think motivation is lacking a bit for some and maybe the new start will bring that enthusiasm back up??
Torment……. The stuff you wrote is correct but irrelevant to the knights situation! Blackjack what are your coaching skills like??

Secondly for 2 premierships, and A bag full of trophy’s otherclubs would only dream about in a 3 year period, and for some of the best time’s a bunch of blokes could have. You were a leader for all our on field activity’s and a leader in 99.9% of our of filed activity’s as well(Muck running Included…lol) Sad to see you go…

Comment by all happening — April 26, 2007 @ 7:54 pm
Yeah. A Coach with knowledge of his players would have Corey Smith and Nick Harrison playing together up front for Knights. As good as Smithers can be at Sweeper (he played state u/23 in that position) I think he could be better utilised up front. With very able defenders in Janks, Tony D and Googsy, with arguably the most consistent defender in the League Matthew Brown to come back in, as well as fit/speedy Jayden Wiggins, I think it’s safe to say Corey could move up front, or into a position sitting behind either Harro, Huigi or Lincoln Conquest. Harro and Smithers know eachothers games and can read eachother exceptionally well, i play outdoor and futsal with both of them, it’s quite good to watch them link up.
That being said, i doubt it will happen.
Comment by chalky — April 26, 2007 @ 8:39 pm
Firstly - sorry to see Mr Kelly go - great job over the past few years from all I have read.. Secondly leave Corey at sweeper striker just sees him get clipped from behind, he spits it, gets frustrated, and gets sent off etc……. (from what I have seen in the past)

lol just to soccer supporter - please note the words “in the past”!! I think you will find its not just the position that has changed (thanks eamonn)!!!
At the end of the day i can’t see us changing the formation or the way we play too much!! I think we will tweak a couple of things and try and just get everyone re-motivated as that is the problem…Not positions or ability!!!
Comment by corey smith — April 27, 2007 @ 11:57 am
gee re motivated - what a great cop out , what it’s your 50th anniv and you guys aren’t motivated…..
Pull the wool from over your eyes - you let the coach down - you didn’t work hard enough pre season thought it would just happen.
The senior players have to take the blame , the last four games you have played like individuals , for !!!
You guys will no doubt come out sunday firing on all cylinders for at least a week , but if things don’t go your way watch the rails fall off.!!!
You have lost your talisman - he kept you guys in check and as a unit - doubt if you the players can do it … sure 1 E.Kelly will take on another job soon and sure he will enjoy it more!!!

Who is Matthew Brown? Has he played more than 5-10 games in the last 2-4 seasons. Is it marshmellow brown from junior days?
Is he a consistent drinker, or soccer player?
Suggestion for Blackjack as well, can we rename this site Corey Smith’s Blog? Im sure most people enjoy reading about him so might be appropriate to do so
No, Corey has his name mentioned on here enough, he doesn’t need his name in lights, regardless of what he tells you.

Last time I talked to Browny (Last week) he was to be coming back in, hasn’t been able to train the last few weeks as he has been in Thailand and Japan(the latter im not sure) for work recently.
Marshmellow? I don’t know how he got that nickname if it’s the same fella, this Brown is hard at it.
He is a very consistent drinker, he hasn’t got the title Bombs Brown for nothing, loves a Jagerbomb at the tele.
Regardless, we all love a beer. Once he is fit I’d rate him as one of the best marking backs in the league. Very smart player. Soccer brain.
Comment by chalky — April 27, 2007 @ 2:18 pm
OSC- great name by the way… Does it reflect anything in particular? lol, oh And we don’t need a “cop-out’ thanks. We all know it not a great start to the season, and it’s the last reason why Kel has left us. Motivation is a strong word for any team and people dropping it on here in a sense have been ’slighty’ correct. But re-motivated is a better word, we haven’t lost it at all, just need a bit more of it, maybe to show towards the public watching, maybe they are just used to our normal sense of confidence that comes with playing at the Knights. maybe it has looked a little difference it the past weeks. It may come across that we don’t have any, in body language etc, but people have focused on this and made a point of it, Normally it’s only near the end of a game, that’s it. but realistically the fire is always in the belly, even if the skin may hide it. maybe you haven’t seen our games or maybe you have, We have ‘played’ quite well creating more than enough chances to win our games easy, just got to put more in the old onion bag.

I’m yet to see the Knights play so can’t comment on any ‘motivational’ issues, but I’d assume an unmotivated team would lose by more, so perhaps it’s a loss of form in the final third, or more than motivation it’s concentration.
There was an interesting note about luck, teams can be lucky or unlucky, but surely these streaks are finite, generally short? I had a coach once say that when you’re playing well you make your own luck.
The season is three games old so I think a mountain is being made out of a mole hill here in terms of the Knights form.
As for Eamonn I’ve not played under him but from all accounts he is a top bloke and whenever I’ve spoken to Knights players about him it was all positives, they played together as a unit, for him and themselves. I wish him all the best with his new endeavours and it’s sad that he won’t have the chance at the three peat be it his decision or someone elses.
If the Knights want a care taker coach for the season and are willing to give a young aspiring fellow a chance, I’ll put my hand up
I wouldn’t sweep you either Corey. [Obligatory Corey reference].
