  1. By all reports, University was less than capable or functional in last week’s loss to Kingborough Lions despite the return of both Colin Shepherd & Alexis Bull (the latter coming on as a late second half replacement.). Hopefully Horace will have Bull starting so that Uni will have some organization and punch to their play because the last few weeks have shown Uni as a rudderless ship without him. Even Sheppy has been below his best. Uni aren’t doing enough to maintain a position on the ladder higher than they currently are (7th), therefore I can’t consider Uni as a serious threat to Knights, even though Knights are also coming off a loss and will be without midfield maestro Jono Ladic. The question is who will take a step up and organise in the middle of the park? Knights will continue to be a threat to every team they play but their serious threat to the 2007 premiership has evaporated. This may well be the ideal opportunity for the Huigy brothers to start blooding some of their youngsters to give them a taste of top level and to begin building for 2008. It must be infuriating to be at the helm of the Knights knowing that their inconsistency is the most consistent aspect of their game. If I could come up with a solution though, I’d apply for the job.

Clarence will be tested by an invigorated New Town Eagles and despite Eagles occupying the foot of the ladder their ability has grown with the reintroduction of some of the calmer personalities. Having capable players like Graham Reekes must be considered to be a real asset to Ian Parker and allow him to build some confidence in his planning. While on the subject of Ian Parker – Ian you have a lot of fans in Tasmanian football but you need to service your club members and it’s fans by putting aside the private vendetta against Walter Pless and start speaking to the media. Fans want/need & are entitled to know what is happening with their team.

Clarence will be desperate to get their season back on track and playing their third consecutive home game can only help. A lot has been said this week about who was the better team in the match between Knights and Clarence, but the fact remains, Clarence scored the three points which gave them their first win in too long especially considering Andrew Brown still sees Clarence as premiership contenders. Well if they are to be contenders they will need to convincingly defeat Eagles and stamp their authority on the second half of this competition.

Kingborough Lions may very well be a toothless tiger with the recent news that Chris Sanita is in Melbourne on trial with Brunswick City and will take no part in this match. Sanita’s absence will create a huge selection dilemma for Jeff Freeman and his senior player group. South Hobart has a very good record at Lightwood. Their last meeting at this venue saw South thrash the Lions by a considerable 5-1 scoreline. In all honesty South should be able to match or surpass that scoreline if they played to their potential but South have yet to hit their straps this season. This fact allows Kingborough a glimmer of hope that they may pinch the points and continue their climb up the ladder. Kingborough have apparently abandoned their attempts to play good looking football opting to play disciplined and ‘hard graft’ football where effort will find greater rewards than playing it attractive. As South have more to lose in this match and have the more capable lineup I’ll go with them but I won’t be too surprised if it goes the other way.

Sunday sees the third match between Olympic & Taroona. The latest result saw the new boys defeat Olympic in the Statewide Cup much to the embarrassment of the more credentialed Olympic. Taroona is going to struggle in this match as they will be missing some quality players if the rumours are correct. Martyn Wells will slot straight back into the line up assuming he is back at all. Is the surf running somewhere? I’m not the coach of Taroona but is this sending the right message to young players at Taroona?

Olympic are doing well with a player list that does nothing when compared to teams such as Knights or South Hobart but the important thing is that they continue to put the runs on the board. I think this is commonly referred to as ‘flying below the radar’. It’s hoped Pete Tsikiris will be back on deck this week as he is the engine that drives the Olympic ship. Let’s hope they aren’t Titanic like in a tricky fixture.

Zebras & Metro will wrap up the weekends round of matches and I can see no other result than a convincing win for the all conquering Zebras outfit. Metro will manage to play for the full ninety minutes but in the same class. The only match will be Metro being able to match Zebras in the physical match. In the football match, Metro just isn’t in the same class.

We could see a change at the foot of the ladder this week

  2. Stunning lack of response so far (are all the normal posters out on the town tonight - as usual)? Surprised that no-one has jumped in given the slightly acidic initial article! Just to get things underway -
    `
Uni. v. Knights. (low quality game) - 1-1
Clarence v. Eagles (about the same) - 2-2
Kingborough v. Souths (probably the best game to watch) - 2-1
Olympic v. Taroona (if Rhodesy attacks for a change) - 1-2
Zebras v. Metro (you’ve got to pick an upset) - 1-2
    .
Now you’ll all know why I don’t enter the Tippernator thing. Just hope that there’ll be some thrilling, skilfull stuff this weekend.

  3. woe is me eagles I can see a multitude of tranfer requests come 2008 as i can’t see the likes of pitchy and tex setteling for playing div 1 because thats were I think they are headed.

  4. Eagles played well today and dug deep but got caught out by a freak goal in the last few minutes. As for transfer requests….won’t be necessary, they will stay up. The are playing better each week and a few wins are more than possible.

  6. Whichever team finishes bottom of the premier league they will NOT lose a home and away play-off. Their is a huge gap between premier and division one.

    Wow, that’s confidence BJ

    Comment by Steve Pitchford — June 23, 2007 @ 8:17 pm

  7. Call it a freak goal, but it shouldn’t have gotten through. If Pitchford is indeed in the top three keepers in the south, then how did that get through? Good hit from Ling, he had a fantastic day today. Clarence’s second goal was much better, though, much more skilful and Clarence deserved it as it was a great passage of play.

Would also like to point out that the refereeing was very good in both senior games today at WWP - most Clarence fans were satisfied this week after some very imbalanced free-kick counts.
Also, are the Clarence Academy on the way down in U-19s? They could only manage a 1-1 draw today, and they were lucky to achieve that much. Did anyone else view the game, maybe any comment on what happened?

Huon Valley seem to be getting belted every week. Does anyone have any info about why (obviously they aren’t scoring, but), or whether they might get dropped to div 2 next year?

Steve, as I recall, Hobart United lost the Premier-Div 1 playoff last year as the Premier team - yes there is a gap, but anything’s possible. Can’t honestly see Beachside or Kingston Cannons (as the 1st and 3rd sides in div 1) beating an Eagles or Metro outfit, but the game would be interesting to watch.

Did South deserve their win?? How many behinds did they kick?

    Comment by redandblack — June 23, 2007 @ 9:34 pm

  8. steve thats a pretty big statement seing as you are a div 1 coach I wonder how your players would feel knowing that thier coach dose not thing much about the talent or lack of in div 1.

    Comment by fan — June 23, 2007 @ 10:06 pm

  9. Danny G, Steve Pitchford,

Do you two know something the rest of us don’t? As things stand at the moment the bottom three teams may all drop.

redandblack - I’m sure Brian Roberts will fill you in but from what I saw the behind count was about equal and not that many from either side. Souths by way the better especially with the first touch and Browny had a good game (albeit with his normal ‘attitude’). My MOtM would got to Iseli - brilliant commitment and skill on a losing side.

    Comment by tasblue — June 23, 2007 @ 11:04 pm

  10. fan - I have seen a fair bit of both leagues, and DOSA have played against Metro in a friendly. We have now played all teams in Div 1 and from what I have observed there is a big gap. No doubt upsets can happen in a single match but, in my view, not likely over a home and away series.
tasblue - if FFT tried to change the basis of relegation from one to three at this stage of the season I think the uproar would be enormous - with possibility of legal action? I dont think FFT are likely to try that.

    Comment by Steve Pitchford — June 23, 2007 @ 11:41 pm

  11. Tas Blue , I agree with you Boro never seemed to string it together where South even though they kicked a few behinds appeared far more positive and determined than in previous matches .
As game progressed pressure told on the Boro hence the penalty .

Re S Pitchford’s comments on the gap I back him 100% . See my comments on the Competitin restructure site .
It would be criminal to demote the two bottom Premier sides to Div 1 . It would neither benefit the Div 1 league nor the demoted sides.

I mentioned this to the President yesterday .

The Board meeting reviewing the structure was last Tuesday.

…and the result of that meeting was??? BJ

  12. Only saw first half of Clarence V Eagles. from my biased view point, Eagles were very unlucky not to be up by a couple at half time. Apart from a couple quick counterattacks (that did come pretty close) Eagles were definitely the much better team in the first half.

  14. Was absolutely disgusted at the Olympic supporters today. They abused the referee and his assistants as they walked off after the first half, both in Greek and in plain English swearing. No wonder there’s not enough referees in Tasmania, with treatment like that. I won’t be going to any Olympic games in future - it was dreadful.

The Olympic-Taroona game, aside from the supporters, was not a memorable game, however Olympic deserved their win and Taroona didn’t play very well at all.

    Comment by redandblack — June 24, 2007 @ 4:51 pm

  15. I agree with the thoughts on how poorly referees are treated, particularly by players these days, and that’s why there’s a shortage…

Normally it’s the losing team offering most of the abuse though, so what event/s fired the Olympic supporters up? Or were they not winning at halftime (not that it’s a valid reason/excuse to abuse them anyway)?

    Comment by Ril — June 24, 2007 @ 5:31 pm

  16. Redandblack, I was also at the game in which the Olympic supporters lashed out the passion on the ref. I agree with you that some of the supporters went over the top on telling the ref what they thought of some of his decisions, mainly on Kapper being sent off during the first half. If the ref saw the whole incident he would of given a yellow at best I feel, it was defiantly not a red card job. The supporters let fly at what they thought was unjust and for the record most of the boys on both teams get on extremely well with none of the Olympic players giving any cheek to the officials. The game was again played with Olympic missing 5 key players, and yes… a bit scrappy, but they deserved the win with some good football in stages especially with one man down for 3 quarters of the game. Taroona seemed unable to finish some easy balls but full credit to the Olympic goal keeper for 3 outstanding saves when Taroona did attack.
In all football codes the crowd or the supporters have a right to speak their mind and usually do when it comes to refs. This game today was no different as it comes with the territory of being a ref. ( it was not a knitting competion) The official made from what I could see only two questionable calls in 90 minutes, which in my book was pretty good. The rest of the game he got right by letting the game flow the way it should. I’d also reckon he’s got a pretty thick hide and the swearing of some Greeks is not going to make a difference to him or any other official.

    Comment by Boots — June 24, 2007 @ 5:47 pm

  17. “In all football codes the crowd or the supporters have a right to speak their mind and usually do when it comes to refs.”

So you’re saying there’s nothing wrong with people abusing referees? At least they’re out there having a go, it’s not far from a volunteering position, giving up their weekends to give something back to the game they’ve probably played, or are still playing… yet you think it’s alright as in your opinion he’ll cope with it? Maybe, maybe not, but what about the younger or female refs, which are needed to increase the numbers and keep the game running!

2 questionable calls in 90mins was pretty good? I’d say that’s a fantastic job, and I’d say his performance as a % in decisions made compared to decisions made with the ball, would’ve been far better than every player out there, I bet they didn’t cop as much abuse though.

I invite you and those supporters to say the same stuff aimed at the ref to a policeman next time you see one on the street and see how your “right to speak your mind” goes then!

    Comment by Ril — June 24, 2007 @ 6:39 pm

  18. I doubt that there was only 2 questionable decisions during
    the match.
Maybe the abuse the ref copped made him ref a bit
    fairer in the second half.

I dont want to gt into a debate about the ref,
but he was a shambles in the first half.
If players cant ask the ref a simple question without recieving
a yellow card what has the game come to.

No matter how you look at it olympic got the three points
    so just get over it.

And Ril reffing is not a voluntary job thats why we have
the refs that we do, just doing it for easy money.

    Comment by corky — June 24, 2007 @ 7:28 pm

  19. Ril, come on mate read my earlier blog again.. were did I condone what the Greeks said to the ref today?? no where. I also mentioned that some of them went over the top on their reaction on a questionable call. I’ve seen AFL and League matches were this is a common occurrence when supporters feel the call was just plain wrong. This game today was no different.
I have seen many blogs in the past about other clubs supporters having the same reactions when a dubious call is made, but here in Tassie I have never seen more than swearing, unlike other places were the supporters go ballistic with violence. There were no bad feelings after the game amongst the players or the officials from what I could see. Maybe the reason is that “what happens on the paddock stays there” Ril, so lets not go overboard because of some old Greeks have trouble handling their emotions.

    Comment by Boots — June 24, 2007 @ 7:52 pm

  20. By the way - Grillas scored all 3 for Olympic, and the reserves was 2-0 to Olympic.

Boots, did you see the two supporters who abused the referees as they crossed the track, swearing the whole time, then came up to them and threatened and pointed at them? I felt sorry for the poor buggers - it was dreadful. To be honest I did not see the red-card incident, but even a bad decision (if it was one) was/is no excuse to go off at the referees like that. However I strongly disagree with you when you say abuse is part and parcel of refereeing. This incident I’ve described was atrocious and I hope there is some ramification. As you say, Ril, what about the younger or less experienced referees? Boots, will a newly graduated 14 or 15 year old want to put up with that crap every week?

As for ‘voluntary’ refereeing, yes I imagine refereeing is like that. One of my mates is a referee and they actually do not get paid that much. When half the money is paid as tax anyway, the remainder becomes travelling money. I think you’ll find the more senior referees don’t do it at all for the money.

Would also like to point out Fletcher Tracy, Boots, as you say ‘none of the Olympic players giving any cheek to the officials’. After receiving a card at some point, at the end of the game he approached the ref and proceeded (I presume) to argue some point. This comes under my definition of cheek, or dissent towards the ref, and the Olympic players certainly weren’t perfect by any measure.

I don’t say all this to provoke an argument, however I do believe that there was no place for what happened today in our ‘beautiful game’. It wasn’t just ’some old Greeks not being able to control their emotions.’ I hope something’s done…

  21. Great game for the spectators today at north chigwell, high scores all round with Zebras over the line in all games. A credit to a plucky Metro always are and always will be… Ugly scenes at the the end of the Reserves with a Metro player(no names) standing on the side line with his top off after being sent off waiting for a fight…. he was there for at least ten minutes before the final whistle and I must question the Metro committee for not sorting this kind of shite out… It only adds to bad reports etc for their club… Similar at the end of the senior game when several players forgot that a bit of banter on the park shouldn’t continue off it… Ref Angel did a great job controlling it (I couldn’t have been so composed well done Pete…) No players bar me in the mets club rooms afterwards may explain these antics that seemed to go unnoticed by the mets committee… we are all at the games for a good game and a good time but when supporters and players attempt to pick fights after the game and threats are made off the pitch over a game of SPL something has gone wrong, let’s look at how many sheep stations are on line here and all wake up a bit…

For the best part ,the game was well contested, some great goals and good play, glad the wind dropped for the seniors and I think the result was fair… great points from the game: Micky connelly’s attempt at a throw in, and Ricky Self’s shot that ended up a throw in!!!!

    BOG’S R. Self(great game) H.Fagg and R.Smith in control as always…..

  22. Brett,

Thanks very much for your one sided view on the antics of after the senior match. The banter stops when the game finishes.. when the handshake begins so you may find (as i think you were off the field you wouldn’t know) that your player instigated what happened out there.

As for the reserve game i didnt see the incident.

We could also talk about the incident in the senior match when one of your supporters pelted a ball at Phil while he was waiting for the ball to come back to take a throw in. Im sure that you consider all your players and supporters perfect Brett, but im not sure if you hear everything that goes on. When a player from our team got cleaned up (yes we got the free kick) and it was a rather rash challange and one of your players goes thats it mate had to hit him, I dont find that particually intelligent either. We arent playing for sheep stations, tell your team that as well.

Apart from that Zebras very clinical outfit. Good win by them.

…and we’ll leave this one right here thanks gents. I only allowed this one through the right of reply, but no one is going to win this arguement/debate/discussion. Just as the referee sees thing deifferently and may look biased to the other team and supporters, so will this incident. Thank you for your respective input though. BJ

  23. redandblack abuse of the referee is not eclusive to Olympic fans. I attended the Clarence & kingston match a few weeks ago at Wentworth Park and vividly remember a few clarence fans wanting to have a piece of Dirk Gadd including one of the committee persons I believe. One ratbag behind the goalmouth actually had his kids with him while he abused Gadd with filthy language and advised Gadd to get in his car staright after the match was over. It’s best to be lilly white or squeeky clean before being high and mighty.

It’s not right but it happens, each club has the be vigilent and act calmly and quietly to ensure the safety of the officials and the good name of the club.

    Comment by Mirror Image — June 24, 2007 @ 10:16 pm

  24. Clarence picked up their second three points in a row after an unconvincing two nil win over New Town Eagles.
Eagles made a mockery of their ladder position as they dominated Clarence for the first half but were once again left to rue their inability to score goals this year. Clarence as is their style were looking to strike with quick counter attacks but these were few and far between in the first forty five minutes.
Eagles were on top in the middle of the park as Clarence switched Luke Cripps from midfield into defence due to the suspension of Ben Parker after his dismissal last week. Clarence missed his combative efforts and Paul Bremner was less effective than in previous weeks. Eagles’ Graham Reeks displayed vision, control and compsure that had been missing from Wentworth Park in recent games. His first touch was exemplary, his passing neat and accurate and he directed his fellow players well. Cormac Collins and scrabble double score word Alex Leszczynski provided exploitable width, also missing from Wentworth Park in recent times. Adam Shackloth toiled hard in the forward line in particular to pressure the Clarence defence but his positional sense was lacking when his side was in attacking movements. It was he that was presented with Eagles best chance of the half as the ball was played low and firm across the box by strike partner Richard Leszczynski but he put the ball across the face when he should have done better. He made the angle difficult for himself by running towards the back post when he would have been better placed by attacking the penalty spot or front post.
Clarence were the better of the sides in the early exchanges of the second half and started to assert some dominance. Eagles were resilient and fought their way back into the contest but looked open every time Clarence countered as they committed numbers forward searching for their first win of the season. Nathan Pitchford being required to make some excellent saves. Eagles should have taken the lead when Collins toyed with three Clarence defenders on the left and burst across the field, he shot into the side netting when squaring the ball to the well positioned R. Leszczynski was a better option.
Clarence are persistent and run games out better than the majority of the competition. In three weeks games involving Clarence have beed decided in the last few minutes of the match. They took the lead with an excellent goal from Toby Ling. He was no more than two metres over the halfway line when he shot directly from a free kick and beat ‘keeper Pitchford. Pitchford could do nothing about the second goal as Eagles stood off Cripps and allowed him to send an excellent strike from near the edge of the box (’keepers right) across the face and into the far side netting.
Man of the Match: Graham Reeks. Ling and Cannamela performed well, Cripps’ efforts deserve credit but this was a resilient team performance. Mentions also for Collins, Telega and Pitchford from Eagles.

  26. We continually lose good and potentially top quality referees because they refuse to cop the abuse thrown at them by idiots. Then of course those sme idiots spend most of their time whingeing and moaning about the poor standard of refereeing.
When will they wake up to the fact that referees have to learn their trade the same as anyone else and cut them some slack, giving them time to improve and grow instead of chasing them away from the game or, even worse, making them so cynical about the situation that the referees themselves enter each match with a defensive and negative attitude just waiting for the crap to start.

    Comment by A Whisper — June 25, 2007 @ 8:35 am

  27. Blackjack, this issue with abuse from supporters is very relevant and should be discussed a tad more. In my opinion the spectator who paid hard-earned to watch a match has the right to “say or shout” whatever ever he wants. This includes support for a specific player, team not to mention a ref decision which has gone in favor to an opposition. How the supporter handles his outburst at that time could actually be detrimental to teams overall outcome as the ref is only human and may get p’ed off and call other plays in the oppositions favor. The other bloggers who found Olympics supporters swearing dreadful is BS. Were have you been??? It’s a way of everyday life now, accepted on TV, in schools and obviously in the home by most people. The ref as mentioned before has a tough skin to swearing abuse especially in this case if you know the bloke.
I don’t condone swearing at anybody, and to be honest I would have been embarrassed had my mother been there, but if you’re going to a sporting event such as football, you’re going to hear people use and direct language that may offend, and if it does, stay home.

You are arguing from two different directions here Boots. So are you suggesting we should be able to swear and abuse referees because we paid our “hard-earned to watch a match [and therefore should have] the right to “say or shout” whatever ever he wants” or we should NOT be entitled to swear because you “don’t condone swearing at anybody”??

    I’m confused… BJ

  28. Ask Kim Barker or Pete Angel just how much abuse they receive from the supporters and players?
I think you’ll find the answer is very minimal and it’s just water off a ducks back………………

    Comment by Eleventy Seventy — June 25, 2007 @ 10:13 am

  29. BJ, it’s simple really. I don’t swear at the officials no matter what. However if a supporter wants to swear because that’s the way he expresses his emotional outburst, then that’s his business. On the weekend the Greeks were peeved at the ref’s decision which caused a few of them to lash out venom which they as supporters felt justified in doing. Now the question is how do you police this? Do you play the game without spectators to make sure the officials don’t get sworn at? Or do you just accept it as part of the game and get on with it?

    Comment by Boots — June 25, 2007 @ 11:08 am

  30. We do not accept swearing in schools, plain and simple. The swearing from people is interesting, if the only way to get your point across is to use 5 or 6 words then obviously your vocabulary is limited and intelligence questionable.
    .
Why do Kim and Pete get less from the crowd, because they get close to all their decisions right, why do the others cop more, because they seem to not make the right decisions when all others can see and then can not explain how or why they made them, causing frustration. Kim and Pete also have a fairly constant decision making process, in other words consistency, others seem to change as they go along.

    very frustrating

  32. For all those at the Clarence Eagles game…. Did anyone notice the change from eagles between the first and second half?? The first half agreed was dominated by Eagles and lack of finishing proved costly… But still chances were created…

Second half saw a change in the winds… Ealges lacked the dominance in mid field, with perhaps old age and injury starting ti kick in with the two central mid fielders… From all accounts Mat Rybak in CM was struglling with a back injury. Why was he not substituted? Ian Parker did not make one change to his team for the whole game.. When it was clear to all out there the team was down why did he not change things??? Shackcloth up front spent most of his time in Mid field compensating for the lack of control in the centre of the park… Leaving Richard up front to do the work.. Therefore chances in the second half did not come…. I think Ian could use a little time with his players to better understand their situation… The group is a talented youthful group, and confidence could not be at a high level with no wins to speak of………

  33. Boots, I ask again, did you see the two older supporters who went up to and threatened the referees from close quarters (eg. no less than 2 feet away) after the first half? When you say that swearing is acceptable, yes it can be, maybe, in the way you describe it, but what about the people threatening the referees like that?

I believe A Whisper captures my point, more respect for the refs is needed.

  34. Charlie - as a teacher you may not condone swearing in school but what action do you take when it happens ? my understanding is that your hands are very tied , you can point in the right direction - react accordingly and attempt to stop but society has changed - do not agree with agressive crowd behaviour to players and or officials - but can the volunteer control it ? wouldn’t have thought they are qualified to take such action, if somebody steps outside the “line” makes an ass of themselves as described in the Olympic game this week and Clarence the week before what action can be taken to stop such behaviour or is it normal behaviour in a sporting emporium ? have a look at main stream sport with strong crowd base - it unfortunatly is common behaviour - if its ok on Tv why not here .
I am sorry but it is a society issue not just a local tas football issue - only more obvious here cause everybody nows everybody at local games

  35. Redandblack, no I did not see the two guys threatening the ref. What did they do? I suppose these are the supporters who swore at the ref at close range. I wonder if you could call that threatening which is usually associated with violence?. There was definitely none of that. I really don’t think Gadd would be threatened by 2 old Greek guys anyway.
I know the point you’re trying to make here R&B and I understand that respect towards officials is something needed, but I’m also a realest.
Let’s leave the matter as it stands, unless BJ wants to make it a topic.

No I don’t want to make it a topic.
To quote a saying from the bible (and I’m not the least bit religious), ‘Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you’.
In other words, if you want respect, then give respect. BJ

  36. As a player at the game and being an ex Olympic player, i thought under the circumstances that the Olympic players held themselves together very well, seeing as though the the coaching staff and a couple of supporters didnt. The question once again here is where is this so called match day manager who is supposed to make sure this doesnt happen. What happened at half time was a disgrace and if not for my coach I would have let fly at both of those supporters. Both boots and red & Black have valid points… Just leave it at that… Well done to Olympic, they played all over us and we were shite!!!

  37. No further comment on the match at the Athletic Centre will be accepted. I’ll cut it now before it gets out of hand.

  38. black and white - just because pitchy maybe let in one goal that shouldnt of got passed him does that make him a bad keeper? no i dont think it does! he is actually a top keeper and im sure plenty of people will agree…..

  39. I’m with you DJ, everybody has luck not go thier way, and little mistakes creep in from time to time and that is what make us human. You look a the footage of Mckenna in the highlights and you’d think he’s rubbish from what is shown, but we know he is a quality kepper as well. The poor old keepers get singled out for one mistake when a player can make many and not be as noticed… Such is life.

  40. Oh yes Goal Keepers and Referees..

Its usually one or the other that cop the blame..

Pity we overlook the other 20 players that make our game great
and no doubt also give grief to the Goal keepers and the referees.
