Oh yes Goal Keepers and Referees..

Its usually one or the other that cop the blame..

Pity we overlook the other 20 players that make our game great
and no doubt also give grief to the Goal keepers and the referees.

I’m with you DJ, everybody has luck not go thier way, and little mistakes creep in from time to time and that is what make us human. You look a the footage of Mckenna in the highlights and you’d think he’s rubbish from what is shown, but we know he is a quality kepper as well. The poor old keepers get singled out for one mistake when a player can make many and not be as noticed… Such is life.

black and white - just because pitchy maybe let in one goal that shouldnt of got passed him does that make him a bad keeper? no i dont think it does! he is actually a top keeper and im sure plenty of people will agree…..

As a player at the game and being an ex Olympic player, i thought under the circumstances that the Olympic players held themselves together very well, seeing as though the the coaching staff and a couple of supporters didnt. The question once again here is where is this so called match day manager who is supposed to make sure this doesnt happen. What happened at half time was a disgrace and if not for my coach I would have let fly at both of those supporters. Both boots and red & Black have valid points… Just leave it at that… Well done to Olympic, they played all over us and we were shite!!!

Redandblack, no I did not see the two guys threatening the ref. What did they do? I suppose these are the supporters who swore at the ref at close range. I wonder if you could call that threatening which is usually associated with violence?. There was definitely none of that. I really don’t think Gadd would be threatened by 2 old Greek guys anyway.
I know the point you’re trying to make here R&B and I understand that respect towards officials is something needed, but I’m also a realest.
Let’s leave the matter as it stands, unless BJ wants to make it a topic.

Charlie - as a teacher you may not condone swearing in school but what action do you take when it happens ? my understanding is that your hands are very tied , you can point in the right direction - react accordingly and attempt to stop but society has changed - do not agree with agressive crowd behaviour to players and or officials - but can the volunteer control it ? wouldn’t have thought they are qualified to take such action, if somebody steps outside the “line” makes an ass of themselves as described in the Olympic game this week and Clarence the week before what action can be taken to stop such behaviour or is it normal behaviour in a sporting emporium ? have a look at main stream sport with strong crowd base - it unfortunatly is common behaviour - if its ok on Tv why not here .
I am sorry but it is a society issue not just a local tas football issue - only more obvious here cause everybody nows everybody at local games

Boots, I ask again, did you see the two older supporters who went up to and threatened the referees from close quarters (eg. no less than 2 feet away) after the first half? When you say that swearing is acceptable, yes it can be, maybe, in the way you describe it, but what about the people threatening the referees like that?

I believe A Whisper captures my point, more respect for the refs is needed.

For all those at the Clarence Eagles game…. Did anyone notice the change from eagles between the first and second half?? The first half agreed was dominated by Eagles and lack of finishing proved costly… But still chances were created…

Second half saw a change in the winds… Ealges lacked the dominance in mid field, with perhaps old age and injury starting ti kick in with the two central mid fielders… From all accounts Mat Rybak in CM was struglling with a back injury. Why was he not substituted? Ian Parker did not make one change to his team for the whole game.. When it was clear to all out there the team was down why did he not change things??? Shackcloth up front spent most of his time in Mid field compensating for the lack of control in the centre of the park… Leaving Richard up front to do the work.. Therefore chances in the second half did not come…. I think Ian could use a little time with his players to better understand their situation… The group is a talented youthful group, and confidence could not be at a high level with no wins to speak of………
