Well someone has to start the ball rolling !
Only 2 drawn matches all season so thats about to change this week !
Rough tips are:
Olympic 3 Knights 3 - Goal feast down on the river flats
Burnie 1 Rangers 1 - Rangers matches are always low scoring ?
Devonport 2 City 2 - Why not ?
Lonny Utd 0 - Somerset 6 - Couldn’t possibly be a draw !!!!

The first game of the Northern Premier League sees the inform Riverside host the inform Prospect Knights in what will almost certainly be a high scoring affair. Riverside have just come off a great win against Rangers, a solid win against Launceston and a well fought out loss to Devonport. While Prospect have had two solid 1-0 wins over Rangers and Launceston City, the latter of particular importance, as it’s the first time Prospect have beaten their neighbors in many years.
.
What does all this mean for this game? two teams in good moods, gunning for a win the only way they know how, attacking and physical.
.
Riversides young list of players showed no fear against Northern Rangers in last weeks win, although trailing an impressive Ranger outfit 2-1 at half time, Riverside found their strengths and capitalized on them. Their youngstas went in hard and determined, winning every 50 / 50 ball and some that were closer to 40 / 60, they gave Rangers no space and a made the most of their chances in front of goal. Prospect may find this hard to deal with, as they have a physical side, but a slow one. Slater, Claxton, Anton Balym, Pickering and McCormick are all good players but slow and unfit compared to Riverside, and this could be a problem for Prospect on the weekend.
.
Riverside will score their goals on the break and from corners, while Prospect will be more likely to hit the target from range, however the goals come, their will be plenty of them one would think and a close game for sure. For me Riverside will get one more then the Knights
.
Northern Rangers face their toughest test of the season, traveling to Burnie with not less than 8 players out of their squad, two from the Reserves and 6 out of the Senior line up will mean the depth of the club will be truly tested. Sam Luck may watch the remainder of the season from the stands with a knee injury, while the rest of the squad are unavailable due to weddings and overseas travel. This coupled with the poor form of the senior side of late makes it hard to see Rangers getting close to Burnie at home, and their may yet be more bad news for Rangers with 2 more players in the senior side still under injury clouds.
.
Burnie on the other hand are rarely under powered at home and this week should be no different. Croswell is almost always available to play in home games, and this alone will cause Rangers a head ache or two. For the rest of the squad, Burnie will be lamenting on opportunities lost after a disappointing show against Launceston City last week and Somerset the game before. So its do or die fore Hugo’s boys this week, as anything but a win will see the championship hopes disappear.
.
Burnie at home are hard to beat and will be on the rebound, while Rangers may well have forgotten what it feels like to win, this combined with the long list of outs makes it hard to see anything but a Burnie win. Stranger things have happened, but Burnie fairly easily.
.
The crunch game of the season is at Valley road where league leaders Devonport will host the newest challengers in Launceston City, some how in two short weeks, City have gone from no where to championship contenders, and their confidence will be high. 9 goals scored in two games and just one against. The side that never grows old it seems are back to do it again, but this will be their last chance. If Devonport beat Launceston City, you can call the title race a two horse race between Somerset and Devonport, depending how Burnie go, if Launceston City get up, it opens the door to Burnie again, and puts a real chance for Somerset to go back to back. Somehow I think Devonport will strike back this week with McKenna, Wilson, Compagne, and Douglas all fit and healthy and Commanderi back from his time away and looking better than ever. Both these clubs are big game clubs and both will no doubt know the importance of the game, But Devonport have a far superior list to Launceston and this should shine through on Saturday.
.
The final game is the match between Launceston and Somerset and no one would tip against the Sharks even if their reserve squad took to the park. Launceston are a club in crisis and nothing is going right down there. Somerset will be keen to boost their goal difference and get ready to go full tilt at back to back titles. Goal difference is a real issue for Somerset as they are 13 behind Devonport at present and this years championship, could well be decided on such an equation. Somerset must be ruthless on Saturday and show no mercy if they are to make some in roads on this task, as it is all that separates them from the top at present.
.
Launceston will have no chance this week, their only challenge will be to minimise the damage and some how continue to survive as a club.

not bad exprez, but where are you from?
Comment by Captain Australia — July 2, 2007 @ 11:00 am
CA, From Lonny. That’ll do ! Bit crabby though. Got 2 of the teams scores wrong - Lonny United and Knights didn’t do the right thing !
Comment by exprez — July 2, 2007 @ 10:32 pm
Well, it was a penalty. Lonny were never likely to score from open play!

Tasblue, presumably WIN television has a team of journalists and gophers to gathers scores. This blog as a tired, clapped out old ‘has-been’ footballer. The fact WIN can now get scores out before me means someone is pulling their finger out of their backsides and doing something positive for the game. Did this blog have any part in this process?? I’d like to think so even if it’s just to alert the media to how popular the game is in this state and country.

It’s good but only ever on the evening bulletin, I’m usually at the pub or still at the ground. I want to see it the next day!! lol

Why cant the clubs themselves be bothered to notify people of their results? An email mailing list could circulate the details to many at the press of a few keys and at no cost.
The north results and details have been a constant problem for this forum and I have to point out that its usually me who emails the scores to Blackjack on Saturday evenings around 7.30 to 8.00 pm. I also put the scorers on the forum directly as BJ is zzzing around midnight when I get details.
Perhaps you should know I live in England not Tasmania. If I can provide the info why cant someone who lives a bit closer get hold of it quicker and get it posted?
Hear Hear!!! I put a request up here a few weeks ago from Walter Pless to ask clubs to contact Walter as soon as their games are over. I think he got one phone call. Not good enough, but people will complain bitterly when scores aren’t available. Take some responsibility… BJ

Bj
I would be happy to give the results from our games to some one every week, but as walter has no need for them, I havnt bothered letting him know. as for sat arvo net sessions, they dont exsist, see Scotty’s previous post. I am either at the club, at the visitors club, on a bus or on the gas, not untill Sunday sometime that I get a chance to give up dates. email me your mobile bj and I promise to sms you our results and scorers every sat arvo from now on! other than that I have no answers!
.
Socceraust, I appreciate your site and collection of results. if it wernt for you I our club would have no records or proof of earlier games as no one here ever kept them until I started, I owe our stats to you. If only I could find some way to get the reserve and under 18/17 stats I could complete our data base and have an ever present record of our clubs history. but thank you for your informative site.
