Division 1
DOSA 4 v Hobart United 1
Christian United v South Hobart
Match postponed due to ground conditions
New Town Eagles & Kingborough Lions have already played their fixture that was set down for this weekend. So these lads can have the weekend off or possible get some shooting practice under their belts. Charlie White obviously took Tommy Fotak’s advice and bought a few of those goals from e-bay and then sold them on (probably at a profit knowing Charlie) to Warren Iles and young Palmer which was enough to relegate Eagles to a further week of hair tearing and belly button gazing. Eagles are in complete disarray.
Knights v South could be a good match. Hopefully South have turned the corner and realised they have some potential or even in with a shot to take the premiership title in the event of a Zebras slip up. South have more than enough ability and firepower to overcome a Knights outfit that have nothing to play for other than the Statewide Cup. Both teams are capable of playing very good football but are their hearts in it? One hopes so. I’ll tip an easy victory to the South boys as a fitting farewell to young Matty Hill who’s on his way to Victoria. South have more than enough player quality to fill the void Hill’s departure will create.
Olympic & Zebras could also be a mouthwatering affair and I hope both teams come to play football rather than silly buggers and try kicking each other off the park. This will be one of the televised fixtures so we hope the game will be of a suitably high standard to attract the interest of our Victorian compatriots. Frankly I don’t think Olympic have the depth of quality in their squad to really cause too many concerns to Zebras. In many ways it is a shame to see the like of a quality player such as Fletcher Tracey looking like he’s carrying a bit too much of the good life around with him. Tracey has been a player who has impressed me in past seasons. But the young man obviously has more in his life than just his football.
Clarence may not have the stats in terms of recent victories at North Chigwell behind them but they will have far too much for Metro to contain especially if Brown can go anywhere near putting a full strength side out. Scott Hadley may be missing due to suspension but there is more than enough quality to replace the aging legs if not the astute footballing brain. Metro may very well be missing a number of pivotal players but unlike Clarence Metro do not have the quality to replace these players, especially the likes of Shane Kent. If Metro play the 4-3-3 formation they suggest in Walter Pless’s column then we could be in for a goal feast as Brown loves playing an attacking style.
Taroona & University will both be considerably strengthened with the return of key players so hopefully the Roona boys can put up a bit more of a tussle than they did against Launceston City. I must admit sitting on the hill last week I was surprised how easily Taroona seemed to capitulate or just not show up in so many areas of the game. Rob Hortle was the exception as the kid kept on trying despite going through hell for 90 minutes. The lad wasn’t faultless and made some basic errors but he didn’t just chuck the towel. Uni will need the likes of Alexis Bull to come though a minor injury scare to direct a University squad that doesn’t seem to be enjoying their football as much these days. Maybe the season is too long for Rappa, Proudy & Shep these days. A draw would be a fair result on paper.

wheres the Northern stuff BJ? I have my preview ready
Comment by Captain Australia — July 13, 2007 @ 9:48 am
I’m thinking a few draws this week -
Knight to grab a Draw with South
Olympic to Grab a Draw with Zebras
Clarence over Metro
Uni over Taroona
Clarence to move into 2nd Spot on the Ladder if this comes to fruition!
7 Degrees and Snow forecast for tomorrow should make for some good games!

pitty tonights game which will be a good quality contest clashes with the socceroos…… i personally think that state bodies should have had no games on the days the socceroos played!! not just in tasmania!! every player in australia at all levels should obviously be encouraged to get behind the socceroos in my view?? anyone elses thoughts??
Comment by Corey Smith — July 13, 2007 @ 2:02 pm
Well Corey - the FFT have already canned some Youth and Women’s game in order to get a crowd in Launy - and now you’re suggesting that no-one plays the game on the same day as the Soceroos? What next - Kewell’s playing today - all games are off?
Buy a video player from the tip shop ($5). Please, lets get players playing. I think that’s why they want to play?
Comment by tasblue — July 13, 2007 @ 8:03 pm
tasblue mate dont mean to be critical but the whole round of games should have been off in premier league this weekend….. south vs north players shouldn’t have to play before sunday…..especially if we want to show any sort of quality game at york park…….
and YES i am suggesting NO FFA SANCTIONED games be played at the same time as the SOCCEROOS….. They are our national team and everyone should be encouraged by FFA to get behind them!! make it passionate like in other countries!! Do english players play club games while the national team is playing…. or dare i say it do Aussie Rules footballers play on the same day as AFL grand final day?? or any other sport?? its just my view but if the state bodies and grass roots footballing community isn’t encouraged to support the socceroos then how can we expect newcomers and outsiders to be supporting them??
Comment by Corey Smith — July 13, 2007 @ 10:53 pm
What happened at KGV tonight. Doesn’t sound like a close contest.
What happened with your team tonight Corey?? Don’t tell me you were tucked nice and warm at home while your team mates were out there freezing their proverbials off?? LOL It must have been shockingly cold out there tonight??
Comment by Blackjack — July 13, 2007 @ 11:46 pm
Corey, you can’t halt everything just because the national team are playing (especially when they played as badly as they did tonight. Somethings you just don’t want people to see and tonight was one of those). The logistics of rearranging fixtures, especially when the wet weather is causing concerns, becomes a nightmare.
In an ideal world it would be wonderful…but in an ideal world I’d be doing preseason with my Italian club by now anyway!!! LOL

And I wasn’t there .
Was refereeing the wrestling contest of the year by grandchildren in front of a log fire.

Geezus I did not pick that. Well done South! Watch out league they may have hit their straps.

Ahhhh, Robbo is going to be used as a striker for the North v South game tomorrow!!!

Great game by South, dominated the knights! big turn around from the first round between these two. It was the best finishing South have had all year. Awesome individual goal by Wain taking three/four players on from the right cutting in and scoring past Ben Peters (Wain is under rated by many). Knights looked unfit and flat.
Comment by wingman — July 14, 2007 @ 11:14 am
As I saw it.
A night for the true enthusiast at KGV Friday evening, cold & damp.
Whatever it was that prompted a reshuffle of the South lineup, the effect was immediate & beneficial.
South 1 up at the break, having the better of the play but the Knights still in it. Robinson header from a Hill corner.
Hill finally (?) given an opportunity to demonstrate his skills in an offensive position.
Then 4 second half South goals who basically dominated the middle (Hill & Gordon) and both sides out wide, Lo & Waine. South solid in defence.
Knights attack looked a shadow of its former self, can’t recall one surging counter attack ala previous years with 4 or 5 players running at the defence. Closest Knights opportunity came from a corner whith the ball ricocheting around the goalmouth but luck not with them on the night.
BOG Hill & Gordon who bewtween them had a hand in 4 of the goals.
The 5th goal came from a classy Waine weaving run from wide on the right, through the box, past several defenders & into the roof of the net.
They’re probably still shaking there heads.
Good game from Mr Sprod who kept the game flowing and as usual threw in a couple of mysteries just to keep the players & crowd interested.
Best of luck in Melbourne Mathew Hill, sure your class & endevour will be recognised in the big league.

zebras came out strong against olympic and were awarded a penalty early on but due to players jumping the gun from outside the box the made spot kick was re-taken and and missed wide. everything went down hill from there and olympic gained the upper hand after being hounded for the first 15. kosta, lee and bullis scored for olympic as they outplayed the zebras over the long run.
Comment by winter — July 14, 2007 @ 5:18 pm
It was cold and wet at the Athletic Centre this afternoon, but Olympic came away feeling warm and fuzzy. Olympic dominated all state of play today and the Zebra lads didn’t look like their usual hungry selves which was evident in the score. Last time these two teams meet the Zebra coach was quite cocky afterwards so this first premier league match loose would be a humbling experience. It’s never over until the fat lady does her stuff, and right now she’s not even in the building. Well done Olympic.

Metro Claremont 2 - Clarence United 4
The Metro Claremont pitch hasheld up quite well considering the amount of rain it has taken in, great work over by the committe andcouncil to improve the ground. The match was a hard fought contest and at the end of the day wasa fair result. Clarence led 2-0 at half time after two nice goals. John Wise, Ben Parker and Bremner were Clarence’s best in the first half. In the second half Metro Claremont came out on a mission and played some good football. A great header by Parker deflated them momentarily. Adam Mckeown sparked Metro and his performance was second to none on the pitch. He was great to watch and is going to be a real asset for the club, also Terry kent had a fantastic game also. The score got back to 3-2 and Metro nearly stole a point as Shane Kent started to get interested/involved. A fantastic strike by Bremner sealed the win for Clarence with 10 minitues to go. Only critisms of the match was the poor officiating by the assistant linesman on the far side of the ground, but at least he was consistanly wrong for both sides. Also I would hate to see the Metro club get relegated, but until they get a coach who doesnt have to play… Poor decisions are going to be made… The club needs to start having fresh subs not players having to back up from reserves… Surely premer League results much come first???

hi anyone got a result fom the zebras v olympic game
Comment by fan — July 14, 2007 @ 6:03 pm
Hey guys! Pitty for the Zebras (Lost 3-0 to Olympic). After playing them a couple of weeks ago maybe their cocky attitude will calm down (only from a certain few players) after two losses on the trot. Clarence, congrats on the win.. hopefully next week you will have another one.. im sure you will have all your juniors there watching you.. best of luck =o) Clarence have some real spirit.. as i think Browny summed up after the game. Not the best Individual team but work for each other. Bullis… your a gun son
hope the Olympic boys or Clarence take the title this year.
Mick - Would love to have some fresh subs.. unfortunately due to numbers out/numbers at the club not quite as easy as stated.. we dont want any of our teams to get thrashed so we arent going to sit fresh players on the bench for the seniors until we get some depth. Hopefully it will come one day soon, until then a bunch of mates will keep doing whatever it takes to help out the club as a whole.
Cheers.

Saw South v Knights on Friday night - south were very good, a well oiled machine - Knights on the other hand were pretty poor, things dont look to rosy for the future unless they can do what they do well and that’s poach players from other clubs for 2008.
Season is one of the closest one in years, 4 teams seperated by 3 points, This Sunday is massive, Zebras v Clarence and South v Olympic, shame they are on the same day as would be fantastic to see both. Clarence play the top 3 in the next 3 weeks will play a big part in deciding where the trophy goes for 2007. It’s Heating up in the Kitchen!

Why is the Taroona v University game that was washout listed as a 0-0 draw on the FFT website. Will this game not be rescheduled for a later date??
Comment by Blackjack — July 16, 2007 @ 11:06 am
I thought the same thing BJ. Some of the boys from Uni told me that this rescheduled game will be held mid-week. The question is were? By all reports the weather looks bad for Wednesday, and they are also playing on the weekend. Should be interesting.
Comment by Boots — July 16, 2007 @ 12:03 pm
If the season is as close as it is ( pardon the grammar) .Why are we removing teams .
Is it in anticipation of even closer contests ?
Comment by Brian Roberts — July 16, 2007 @ 1:24 pm
The 0-0 appears to have been a mistake by one of the clubs, saving those scores on the FFT Electronic System. It happened for many other teams in various leagues, in fact nearly all of the Uni games that were scheduled at Olinda Grove. It may be coincidence, but someone involved at Uni appears to have been saving the default scores.
I’d take a guess that they used it to inform FFT that the game was unable to be played (although why, I wouldn’t know), and it saved the scores in the process. Anyway, odd that it was mainly one club involved in all the 0-0 entries, and everyone else manged ok..
Comment by Ril — July 16, 2007 @ 1:43 pm
The fixture changes have been made on FFT (World Record pace?). Taroona v Uni now August 11 (Cup weekend).
I also saw on the FFT website that South Hobart have withdrawn their Div2 side… It looks like there won’t be too many worries of where to squeeze their Div 1&Reserves teams in when the changes come in, as they now have no team in Div2, 3 & 4!
Comment by Ril — July 16, 2007 @ 5:01 pm
yeah south, may have withdrawn their 2div one problem remain that there won be a firth div if they have a premier div, also clubs like clarence with a couple of team under 17 will FFT make them share those team with HUTD FC or DOSA FC i am no convince that the new structure 2008 will work if premier leage clubs compromise
Comment by pixel36 — July 16, 2007 @ 7:24 pm
Pixel, South have withdrawn their div 2 side due to injuries and players being unavailable ( a number travelling) throughout the club. This was only a last resort by the committee, with players having to double up forom other sides in recent weeks.
