  1. Well done Manchester City….but you have to wonder why Erikson couldn’t produce these sorts of results at international level. The EPL Game is fast, physical and exciting, and yet when teams get to international level, for some reason, they try to fit into some sort of preconceived international mold instead of trying to play the way they do every week and are used to.
    Chelsea lucky…
Early signs are that there may be some new pretenders in the championship stakes…ManC, Wigan, Portsmouth, Reading and Tottenham look likely to push Arsenal, Man U, Liverpool and Chelsea this year….ain’t it a grand game.

It’s only early in the season yet AW and going by Man City’s performance last night they still have a way to go. Even though they beat Man U, the possession stats must have been 75/25 in favour of United. At the same time United’s squad was almost unrecognisable once the subs came on. All power to City but the season is long and deep squads tend to fare better. ManU to finish well above City. BJ

  2. …oh and BTW…regards the poll question…I don’t think anyone should care who BJ is. So long as we retain the ability to comment openly and honestly (with reins on the illegal and unnecessary) all is good with the world. (I suppose however if he turned out to be Steve Gasparinatos I might have to reconsider…LOL). Are you thinking of coming out of the closet BJ?

I’m not coming out now you have stated your position on SG!!! :-D But as you say, Is it necessary to come out of the closet?? BJ

  3. City defended awesome last night, always good to see man utd losing, Chelsea lucky with the penalty against Liverpool I think the ref lost control in that game for a while. Both sides had a few decent chances so a draw wasw probably a fair result.

City did defend well but they had enough practice at it last night. They were under the pump for the vast majority of the game.

Liverpool should have won their match but that’s football I guess. If the result was supposed to be fair though Liverpool should have won. Malouda wasn’t touched. Just what Chelsea needs another player who dives at the prospect of contact!! BJ

  6. Just love a red who can’t blame his own team for not finishing off opposition then finds a ref to blame ..lol
All those strikers with defenders who still can’t stay on their feet - learn how to defend !!!
Man Utd the new pretty boys get build up no finish - !!!

Not excusing the sloppy reds but definitely defending the maligned and cheated reds!! :-) BJ (who says I’m a red? I just want to see justice for all) :-D

  7. pfft, only person who dives for chelsea is robben, and hopefully he gets dealt. hate that bloke.

Didier Drogba, Joe Cole…enter these names on ‘you tube’ and then tell me Chelsea players (apart from Robben) don’t dive. There is a well known head on shot of Drogba playing against Liverpool where he is 2-3 meters away from a Liverpool defender and goes to ground. It looks convincing until you see the head on shot. They’ve even made comedy clips about these blokes. BJ

  8. Malouda was nowhere near as bad as Torres diving display last night, that was beyond a joke after a while.

He scored well in the fantasy league too. Yeah, he’s top quality as still only a lad. BJ

  10. Referee Rob Styles has been suspended from Premier League duties after his error prone handling of Liverpool`s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Anfield yesterday.

Referee chief Keith Hackett revealed Styles has admitted he got it wrong in awarding Chelsea a controversial penalty.

‘Accountability exists and we expect referees to get big decisions correct, he told Sky Sports.

‘On this occasion it was wrong and therefore Rob will not be officiating next weekend.’

‘I spoke to Rob this morning and obviously he is extremely disappointed with the decision and admitted he got it wrong. I have left a message with Rafael Benitez to apologise.

‘Having looked at a video and seen a better angle and a better view, clearly he now recognises that he got it wrong and he’s deeply apologetic for that. I think, in fact, he too will be making contact with Liverpool in order to offer his apologies.’

Speaking about the other major talking point of the game when Micheal Essien appeared to be booked for a second time, Hackett said: ‘I’m informed by both the fourth official and Rob he retained the card shown to John Terry then held the card to indicate a direct free-kick, and failed to put the card away. So it was a basic, if you like, admin error as against an error in application of law.

  11. JUst on the issue of the referee being suspended…do players that miss an open goal or score an own goal apologise to their team mates….or does the guy that gives away the free kick in the last minute just outside the box that gets converted into the winning goal for the opposition get sacked for next week? Sure referees need educating and assistance but dropping them like that (unless they were REALLY ordinary), for my money smacks of pandering to the clubs…And if he WAS that bad…have they suspended the selector that put him in charge of the game? He is probably already embarrassed enough that he made the blue in the first place.

I hope the player that misses the sitter or gives away the free kick would apologise to his team mates. I’ve quite often heard them do just that. Would a player get dropped?? He may very well do!!

Look at Graham Poll at the world cup…he deserved to be dropped after his match between Aust & Croatia, and so he should. It’s a shame it doesn’t happen here quite frankly but alas we don’t have the numbers to allow us that luxury. BJ

  12. I see ‘Baked Beans’ (Heinze) will be staying at Manchester United. I wonder how it will feel for a full Argentinian international to be playing in Man U’s reserve squad?. The fact remains, upset Sir Fergie and your days are numbered.

If I was ‘Beans’, I’d request a transfer to ANY club that would have me outside of England and insist the deal was completed before the transfer window closes. Then bide my time until the January window opens. A second division Spanish club would be only too happy to have a player like Heinze for a few months. Liverpool would pay for the transfer of course.

But then again will Heinze add anything to the Liverpool squad. Might be best to dip in for the likes of Alves…Chelsea would definitely pay the $25M then!!
