Best U/19 player
Who is the best U/19 player in Tasmania?
In the South names such as Gasparinatos, Lawler, La Polla, Marchiolli, Hunt, Walsh will always be bandied around but what about the likes of Bobby Eaves & Kamon Johnston up north? Then you will also have Div.1 clubs chiming in with the likes of Tom Sherman & Jacob Cavanaugh.
Who gets your vote?
I think FFT should seriously consider the reintroduction of the ‘Rising Star’ award for players playing in senior grades but still eligible to play U/19.
Shane Kent.

David Abbott from South Hobart

Olympic have a yearly Rising Star award, recent winners being Danijel Djekanovic (my pick) and Ben Malarski. Chris Tsakiris won the FFT award years ago

David Abbott - Got the skills, size, temperament and can play various positions.

henry fagg?
Comment by DJ — August 30, 2007 @ 1:33 pm
shane kent should be the leagues best under 19s player! he has shown great leadership for his team and scoring 9 goals in a team who has finished bottom is an outstanding effort!!
Comment by metrostar — August 30, 2007 @ 1:59 pm
billy gasparinatos a class above all of those names. henry fagg and lapolla close but never even heard of lawler or hunt??
Comment by Corey Smith — August 30, 2007 @ 2:08 pm
Have to disagree with Kent if attitude comes into to it… Little Chippa for me, cannot fault his work rate (games and training) and his ability to do something special during tight games(special goals) can’t be taught…

Sam Johnson
Can you give us a bit of background on Sam? BJ
Comment by BikDonga — August 30, 2007 @ 2:22 pm
henry was still eligible to play u/19’s this year. and he is a class player!
Comment by DJ — August 30, 2007 @ 3:19 pm
shane kent??? 9 goals - 8penalties. there are far better players than him! henry, lapolla, billy……
Comment by DJ — August 30, 2007 @ 3:20 pm
Three lads stand out for me, Marcello Marchioli, Marc Iseli & Brett Andrews (Brett most improved for this season).
Comment by 12th Man — August 30, 2007 @ 4:17 pm
i was simply stating that there a far better players out there. im not putting him down. but it is fact that a lot of those goals have been penalties? he would probably agree……
Comment by DJ — August 30, 2007 @ 4:46 pm
Bobby Eaves of Somerset Sharks
As he is my son I have bragging rights but the facts are he has played over 50 games of senior soccer in arguably one of the best teams in the state. Playing from a wide midfield position he has scored 15 goals this year to win the northern goalkicking title. Not to mention all the other goals he has created. Not bad for a boy who only turned 18 the other day.
Comment by uncle t — August 30, 2007 @ 5:04 pm
DJ Shane Kent would aso probably agree that for 75% of the year he played in the mid field. I don’t think goals are the criteria are they ?
Brett you forgot to make a comment on Bily Gasprianatos as well. 1 yellow card in Summer Cup + received his 5th Premier League yellow card Saturday. Makes Shane Kent look like a saint.

background on sam johnson: on show beachside v metro game! solid defender, progressed (or some would say regressed) from U19 last year to div 1 key position player. In the running for div 1 B&F.
Comment by dg — August 30, 2007 @ 5:34 pm
no disrespect but i honestly have not heard of those players? what are the full names and who do they play for?
Comment by Corey Smith — August 30, 2007 @ 5:41 pm
Is this those who could have played U19’s in 2007?
If so Henry Fagg, Marc Iseli, Nathan Pitchford, Cormac Collins, Scott Telega, Youseff, Matty Hills, Tom .Howells, Eoin Nicholson, etc etc would qualify for consideration.
Comment by sj — August 30, 2007 @ 5:53 pm
Alex Gordon for South and Marcus Atkinson for Taroona.
Comment by X — August 30, 2007 @ 5:56 pm
Marcus Atkinson, second that. seem to remember people asking “who’s Maarcus A ?” when he and Bill moved from South.
Comment by KP — August 30, 2007 @ 7:05 pm
Pitchy would have to be up there! Easily 1 of the best keepers in tassie….
Comment by DJ — August 30, 2007 @ 7:32 pm
alex gordon is the most skilled, but gasparinatos the best all round player
Comment by el diablo — August 30, 2007 @ 7:42 pm
Some really strange posts here?? Surely one must think that “the best under 19″ player in the state would be playing in the premier league and most likely at Senior level. Then considering that there is U19 boys representing Southern/Northern team that they would would be hot favs!!!
I would say from the South either Billy or Henry.
Comment by wingman — August 30, 2007 @ 9:09 pm
alex holmes would be another one for consideration. great defender can also play in the midfield good pace and stands at about 6′5 very capable in the air
Comment by bubbles — August 30, 2007 @ 9:10 pm
i agree with BikDonga, Sam Johnson Defender with BeachSide.
yep plays in Div 1 but is a super defender
Comment by tater31 — August 30, 2007 @ 9:32 pm
Met I believe that Billy and Kent have the ability to go a long way, attitude and discipline along with leadership around them has probably cost both in that area, I would personally favour Billy as a all round package, but my arguement re little Chippa or others that have played in “better teams” is simply they have still stood out with other good players around them, Billy and Kent I think stood out more because of the lack of good players around them
Comment by bpullen — August 30, 2007 @ 9:46 pm
James Sherman & Chris Sanita would also figure in these stakes if they were still in Tas. Should they still qualify, they are Tasmanian but just playing interstate.

Goran Jozelic is developing nicely, he’s only 17 as well.
Too bad he’s on the mainland now and not still playing for us!
I’m sure he’ll be better for it.
Comment by Chalky — August 30, 2007 @ 10:24 pm
Not sure if he’s under 19 but I reckon Jeremy Debomford would be my pick, he has a tremendous ability to carve up opposition teams and has a cracker of a drive from a set shot. Toby Skene at Somerset is one of the best centre forwards about yet has been playing at left back the past 3 weeks, Kaymon Johnson and Bobby Eaves would also be in my selected side. Speed and talent.

An U19 South vs North match?
Comment by LE — August 31, 2007 @ 9:24 am
Second that motion. Sounds like a good curtainraiser for second South vs. North senior match.
Comment by X — August 31, 2007 @ 10:22 am
Point taken BJ, also agree that “Little Chippa” will not be moving, time will tell re the other two and the test will be in the pudding!!! would like a year playing with Billy in the centre of the Zebras midfield, reminds me of a younger Ladic…
Comment by bpullen — August 31, 2007 @ 12:21 pm
Sammy Sweeten, goal keeper for Clarence
Comment by D Train — August 31, 2007 @ 12:24 pm
U/19 South Vs North Cutran Raiser for the senior match could be good to see but who do the 19’s already playing mens play for?
Comment by Coxy — August 31, 2007 @ 1:26 pm
ok i know lawler now bj……. is hunt the young blonde left sided fella from clarence?? if it is he was class when we played them first round….. and yes bj i am starting to look a bit old now compared to these others so can only imagine how brett feels
(mind u he is still fitter than most of us)!! and the body feels a bit older too with being out with my knee!!! half a season down and 1 more to go!! scary thought not playing for that long!!! its great to see the league have so many promising youngsters now…… look at the south vs north game for instance!!!
coxy, i think curtain raiser would be good and if they get selected for seniors they go up??
Comment by Corey Smith — August 31, 2007 @ 3:40 pm
i did my ACL and also tore my cartiledge off the tendon… i need a full knee re-co and get it in october… 12 months or there abouts out after the operation so thats next season gone!! bit disappointing but pretty flat out with Futsal and i will be try and stay involved at the club coaching so i keep active!! and yes Hunt is a class player…… i honestly didn’t know his name but if its the young lefty he gave me a good run around in round 1 of the season!!
Comment by Corey Smith — August 31, 2007 @ 10:19 pm
This is incredibly tough but for me it would be Nathan Pitchford. He’s played a few seasons in a struggling side, they’ve not scored many goals but they aren’t shipping many either. He made a few mistakes this year but it’s the nature of his position that mistakes are more apparent, but in context he’s made far fewer than any other youngster I’d say.
.
For an outfield player Marc Iseli gets my nod.
Comment by Tommy — September 1, 2007 @ 8:26 pm
Jeremy Debomford, Kaimon Johnson and Mark Ambrose all out and out stars of the future, all very different players and fit in a team really well together. Great team players
Comment by Hugo — September 1, 2007 @ 10:43 pm
hi there i think Henry fagg for sure and for those of you saying “little chippa” I asume you mean Daniel not Fabian if you are then he is to old for U19 if he has not already turned so he will be 20 this year.
