Mourinho vacates Stamford Bridge

Mourinho out in the cold

ChelseaJose_468x352 The ‘Special One’ has decided to call it quits.

Well we knew he was not a happy camper with their Champions League draw against Rosenborg, and we knew that pressure was on Jose to bring home the Champions League but we didn’t expect him to be vacate Stamford at the start of the season. The very brief but official statement on chelseafc.com  is ”Chelsea Football Club and José Mourinho have agreed to part company today (Thursday) by mutual consent.”

What looked like one of the most interesting seasons in a while just got a whole lot better.

Thoughts?

  1. Bloody hell I bet on Sammy Lee to be the first change, when I placed that bet Mourinho was 500/1!

  3. Just a short walk through London to White Hart Lane? Would save selling the house and finding another school for the kids! (JOL! oops, I meant LOL!)

  5. Not funny Scribe, when people come out with comments like that they have a nasty habit of occurring. Normal service will resume shortly at White Hart Lane - The usual “close but no coconut”.

  7. I would think it might be worth Jose booking two seats on the plane however…Martin Jol cannot be too far behind him. It would be interesting to run a poll on who are the biggest underachievers in their respective competitions…Tottenham or St Kilda.

  8. It would seem that Mourinho will not be coaching Tottenham, or any other English Premier League club, this season at least. Part of the severance deal with Chelski is that he doesn’t coach in the EPL. He doesn’t want to go back to Portugal, but Italian and Spanish clubs will be lining up for the self-proclaimed “Special One”.
There was a good article by Simon Barnes in “The Times”, which basically argued that Mourinho made the mistake of upstaging the owner, Abramovic, time and time again, and that he was like a puppet master as far as the team and players were concerned. That situation could not go on, especially as Chelsea were not winning recently. The owner and the players were the most important cogs in the wheel and Mourinho overstepped the mark.

  10. Noone has really recognised that Mourinho was actually a decent manager! He took Porto to a Champions League title and saw success at Chelsea. The guy was/is a nutter but there is no faulting his footballing intelligence.

Scribe, “The owner and the players were the most important cogs in the wheel”. That really isn’t the way it should work. However, when an owner like Abramovich is in it for a hobby rather than a money making venture it comes as no surprise that he considers himself greater than the mananger. It is a shame to see Jose gone. He was a good manager and provided a bit of entertainment in the press

  11. Who won the Champions League, Who won back to back Premier League titles, give the guy the credit he deserves, I did not like him but he could get the job done. Abramovich should keep out of the picture, money can not buy you a football brain or the ability to manage a team of superstars, I actually feel sorry for him, he has done nothing wrong on the pitch.

  12. Hear hear Charlie and 1878. His track record speaks for itself, has always won something each year
Never a dull interview or match with Mourinho, always something happening either on the sideline or at the after match interviews/ press conferences.
On another note, more bias officiating overnight at Old Trafford ( remember the Spurs game a month back)
Absolutely ridiculous decisions. Saha should have been sent off for that dive.
Hopefully he’ll be back in EPL in 2008/09. Tottenham will surely make a play for him if there aren’t major improvements there.
