Ebb & Flow

I think we should get away from the patently ridiculous notions and scuttlebutt but there are some fairly solid rumours starting to filter through:

Franco Previdi has done his time with the State development squads and has thrown his hand in for the South Hobart job. The word is he’s a strong possibility as one of the other strong applicants is seriously reconsidering due to personal reasons. George Krambousanos has applied for the South Hobart job too.

South will be down a few players for next season as Tom Roach and Jono Lo will be heading off overseas with their medical studies and the State match against South Australia will also be the last match for Daniel Brown before he heads to the mainland. South’s losses will be offset with the signing of a couple of disgruntled Knights.

Jonathon Ladic has secured himself a new team in Hobart Zebras - returning to the roost as it were.

Metro will loose Shane Kent and must rely a lot of their youngsters unless they can get a top notch coach.

Knights will be decimated and could loose up to six of their top names including Corey sitting out for another year due to injury.

South Hobart will not enter a Div.1 team in 2008. Kingborough are still yet to make up their minds on this topic.

Beachside’s failure to win their way into Premier League will see a mass exodus of the youngsters all heading to clubs such as Taroona, Knights & Olympic.

Clarence, like Kingborough are an unknown quantity.

  1. Bj just a question how do u get the info so quickly???? and before club members???

Look around this blog…what area attracts more people and news than any other?? Rumours!! People can’t wait to tell you what’s happening at their clubs. I’m stunned half the time at just how easy it can be. BJ

  2. My mail is Ahmed Abuldultum is in for a number of jobs Knights and Metro have been mentioned . Kavanagh being chased by Taroona maybe something to do with beachside players following him. Were is Goran going when he comes back ??

  3. Goren to Knights. Big losses to South, although some of their decent reserve players will get a look in.
To me Brown has underachieved big time, with the service from South’s midfield he should be very high up in the leading scoring. Probably cost them a title not having a 10 goal a season striker.
Abdultam is highly credentialled, maybe too much for the game here, can be difficult to adapt although he has coached here before - can’t remember if he was successful.
My mail was Ladic to South. If the Zebras part is true then he will once again have yo-yo’d between Zebras and Knights, about the 5th time i think, not bad for a 21-22yo, must be a record.
What about Gasparinatos? Made a bit of a name for himself this season, may be having thoughts about moving after mixing it with Zebras/Knights/South players at the Southern and State team. The lure to a higher profile club than Taroona might be too much.
Any confirmation on Clarence coaching positions? Would be surprised that such a well organised club would leave it this long, or they might be keeping their plans in house for now.

  4. I cant believe the amount that goes on down there in the off! nothing seems to happen in the North, Rangers players stay at the NTCA or retire! as do Riverside’s and A couple of Launceston players go to Knight and back and City never seem to bother anyone!

Best I can report is that Rangers are chassing the sevices of S.Kent in 08

  5. Hasn’t Krambo applied for every position in Tasmania?

  6. if all that is true BJ FFT may aswell put zebras on the trophy now…… i really cant see jono heading back to zebras at this stage but stranger things have happened….. i think you will find a number of knights are waiting on the coach announcement!!! Knights do have some good kids in the 16’s and 19’s worth giving a go this year though and i imagine a few pick ups could be imminent……

  7. Word on the street is that Kavanagh has signed to coach Beachside for another season.

  8. Great recruiting by Zebras if they indeed have got Ladic for next season. Great replacement for Falzon or Frediani.

South will remain competitive for sure. Their reserves side has several players more than capable of stepping up to seniors. Maybe the change in personnel will provide the extra motivation for them to win the title?

Unless the remaining clubs in SPL make some moves we could see a two-horse race for the title.

  9. A two horse race maybe….South will have to step up, that’s a massive loss if those players leave, will still be strong but. May see Billy G in the ranks. I don’t think Jono even knows were he is going yet…. lol. Also i have heard Zebra’s are after a few more people out of the knights squad. Wiggins to Eagles.

  10. Zebras would be silly not to be looking at such players as Jono and Billy, But at the end of the day we have some great young guys ready to step up into Freddy and Marco’s spot. It’s up to the ones that want to play with a team looking forward to defending the title - don’t recon we need to go hunting that hard !!! time will tell….

“…don’t recon we need to go hunting that hard…” I love that modest, unassuming mentality of the Zebras club!!! Careful guys, pride come before a fall!!! :-D BJ

  11. Perhaps if Kingborough follow South Hobarts lead and don’t enter teams in Div 1..A club such as Barnstonworth with its two teams
could consider making up an 8 team league or perhaps for a one off season the Uni Grads boys could make up the numbers..Failing this the Blackmans Bay Bandits playing out of Sherburd????..Go on Kingborough head outside the box and lead the new face of mega clubs
after all whats in a name….

Three clubs on the one ground (Blackmans Bay Bandits, Kingston Cannons & Christian United). Bit excessive don’t you think?? BJ

  12. Blackjack your defence for King playing in Div1 is that too many teams would be playing on Sherburd? Please get real, Gormley is only used by one team, maybe they can share?

BikDonga, Gormley Park is used as the training base for Kingborough. It is also used for the youth matches. Hardly one team matey. While Sherburd Park is used by two clubs, Christian United & Kingston Cannons. Kingborough does not play at Sherburd Park. You need to get your facts updated. BTW, making this observation does not constitute a defence of Kingborough playing in Div.1 BJ

  13. Yeah good point BJ, it’s bad enough that the so called bigger clubs in the Premier League need to share a ground (KGV) and not have their own…………

  14. Walter’s blog has confirmed the appointment of Ahmed Abuldultum to Metro and Scott Gallacher to Uni.

Both top notch appointments and both clubs need congratulations on making such positive moves.

I expect we will see the movements of some players to metro such as Goran (returning from Melbourne) and maybe the likes of Tom Sherman from Beachside.

  15. BJ point taken on the Sherbud ground..Must confess to being out of touch..Had thought Cannons were still at Gormley..However it does sound like the three existing clubs need to talk urgently to the council to see if some new grounds cant be developed..perhaps at either of the new schools set to spring up in the next year or two.

    Comment by interested spectator — October 19, 2007 @ 8:23 am

  16. Interested Spectator - In relation to your comment about the grounds down in Kingborough, there are plans for more grounds to be built/made/redeveloped etc, unfortunately for all the sports that would use them they still take time and money. Hopefully if the school does go ahead you could see some sports including football gain some more grounds and from there who knows other teams, carnivals, summer cup stuff ???

  17. hear on the grape vine that Knights will be without one T Hugisloot as he will be retiring before the start of next season , will anyone be left at the Knights next season???

    Comment by one eyed — October 20, 2007 @ 7:35 pm

  18. I reckon by the end of the year the blog writers will have killed of the knights in rumours , people forget that the club has a huge backing through the Croatian community , sure they may lose some of their so called superstars , but the club will not rollover, wil be around next year and next few years regardless of what blog thinks !!!!
